The second wave of the Covid-19 Pandemic has already spread to the community level in all cities and rural India. Unfortunately, the second wave of Covid-19 is taking the precious Lives of LIS professionals in a more significant number across the country. In this situation, a group of like-minded LIS Professional Associations and some of the Publishing Firms joined together and have decided to assist the Covid-19 affected Professionals and the diseased professionals' families. A meeting of leading office bearers of different LIS Professionals met virtually on May 15, 2021, and have decided to start a Mission to support the Covid-19 affected Professionals and their families in case of their deaths. The meeting decided to name this mission "HelpLIS-Mission." Tribute to Late M N Seetharaman

Please publish following text in LIS-Forum---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I felt sorry to read the demise of Shri M.N.Seettharaman. I worked under him at NAL Library during 1975-76 and also came in to contact with on several occasions - during ILA conference at IIT, Madras, his lecture at KALA, etc. Initially he was working in "Information & Coordination" dept of NAL. When the position of Librarian at NAL fell vacant in early 1970s, he volunteered to undergo training at INSDOC, New Delhi, and became Office-In-Charge (ICA-NAL). He was also lucky to get training in Library automation at Luxemberg. Library profession is greatly benifitted by his entry. He was a dynamic and knowledge oriented personality. With his skills in collection development, resource sharing and interaction with fellow librarians NAL became centre of professional activities. After his retirement from NAL I learnt that he became consultant to Govt. of Afghanistan for a short period and then joined IIT, Madras as Librarian. ILA annual conference was organised at IIT, Madras in 1991, during his tenure which I attended.It was a well organised event. I am greatly influenced and befitted by his dynamic personality. The shocking demise of Sri. M N Seetharaman, popular as MNS, has left the LIS community devoid of a dynamic n great visionary.. MNS , a personality with many accomplishments n credits to the L&IS profession built an Art of the Center Information Center @ NAL of International repute starting with 3 almirahs of documents to the 2nd biggest n exhaustive Library in the country, perhaps next only to IISc... A great visionary, he implemented IT applications in day to day service functions way back in 70s..ESA Online retrieval databases , Italy; DIALOG databases, USA, etc.. He initiated SDI based profile construction services, a highly popular one with the NAL scientists...Thanks to his rapport and camaraderie with the Management Council at NAL, he could achieve to take it to great heights @ the center... He was a voracious reader n kept himself updated in all spheres of knowledge...He was a spontaneous extempore person on any given topic at any time.. Besides his professional reputation, on the personal front he was a very lively n joyful person by nature, very active always on his toes..Seldom he used to get angry although he was a hard taskmaster.. A very pious n religious person with proficiency in Sanskrit ( he was editing articles in a Sanskrit journal), he kept himself engaged till the last day .. One can write an encyclopedia depicting all his achievements n accomplishments..Such was the personality n LEGEND Sir MNS was... *Sub:* Informatics Studies: Invitation to Contribute Papers on Cultural Heritage Information Systems Dear all Cultural heritage connects people to social and cultural values, customs, beliefs, religions, and the knowledge generated by our forefathers in different spheres of activity including science and technology; accumulated through centuries which we are responsible to sustain and transfer to the next generation. Informatics can provide necessary new digital tools, technologies, and advanced interactive information retrieval techniques to conserve heritage assets and document them and the knowledge embedded in them for dissemination in society. But there are also various issues and challenges in developing and maintaining heritage assets as well as building up reliable efficient cultural heritage information systems. Informatics Studies proposes to bring out a special volume on Cultural Heritage Information System (CHIS) in October 2021. The volume will give stress on various aspects of cultural heritage information such as digitization tools and technologies, policy issues, standards and guidelines, metadata and indexing, access and management, issues and challenges, usability and sustainability, architectural designs, semantic and ontological frameworks and the best practices and case studies pertaining to CHIS. The journal Informatics Studies is in its eighth year of publication and select issues are accessible at: informaticsstudies.org. Sad demise of M N Seetharaman, Ex Head, ICAST, NAL

Dear Professionals, I am very sorry to inform you all that Mr. M. N. Seetharaman (MNS), Ex. Head, Information Centre, NAL, Bangalore around 1.00 pm yesterday, 22nd May due to Covid 19. He was 94. He was admitted to Sakra Hospital, Marathhalli Ring Road 15 days back. He was very active and bold being in the hospital too. Infact he spoke to me 6 days back from hospital and kept on sending messages. In between his covid test was negative. But again got infected including secondary infection along with low BP. MNS worked with Both Dr Neelakantan foudar Director, NAL and Dr. Valluri very closely. He played very imporyamt role in setting up of 4'X4' wind tunnel most important milestone of NAL. He took information centre to the highest level and served as its Head, since the setting up Library in 1960s till 1987. He had set up NICDROM at NAL, under NISSAT. MNS was dreamer and was person who used to put staircase to sky. Once Dr. Valluri told openly and I quote "If I were to allow MNS he would have made NAL as subsidiary of ICAST". Among many firsts to his credit he experimented in collaboration with TIFR and introduced satellite based Online Information service through European Space Agency at NAL in 1980s itself. He built exhaustive collection of Technical Reports. Most of thec ISRO, DRDO, IISc, IIT and other Aerosoace related institutes were depending upon ICAST sources and services. Leave alone LIS, he would talk hours together on any topic under the sun and even beyond. He recruited and trained many colleagues at ICAST. After retirement from NAL, he served as Special Officer at Library of IIT, Chennai. He brought ocean changes there to such an extent that IIT Senate gave him a standing ovation. He hosted 39th ILA Conference at IIT. He boosted image of Librarianship at IIT. Infact I worked under his guidance and supervision at IIT. He only recommenced my name to Prof. Narasimha, then Director, NAL who offered me the post of Head, ICAST. Then onwards he guided me to provide quality and state-of-the-art information services. Till the last hour of getting admitted to hospital he was using Internet profusely and inform us about new developments. I lost a friend, philosopher, guide and above all a great human being. MNS worked with Both Dr Neelakantan foudar Director, NAL and Dr. Valluri very closely. He played very imporyamt role in setting up of 4'X4' wind tunnel most important milestone of NAL. He took information centre to the highest level and served as its Head, since the setting up Library in 1960s till 1987. He had set up NICDROM at NAL, under NISSAT. MNS was dreamer and was person who used to put staircase to sky. Once Dr. Valluri told openly and I quote "If I were to allow MNS he would have made NAL as subsidiary of ICAST". Among many firsts to his credit he experimented in collaboration with TIFR and introduced satellite based Online Information service through European Space Agency at NAL in 1980s itself. He built exhaustive collection of Technical Reports. Most of thec ISRO, DRDO, IISc, IIT and other Aerosoace related institutes were depending upon ICAST sources and services. Sad demise Veteran Library Scientist Sri M.N. Seetharaman

To All LIS Professionals, We feel highly painful to hear the sad demise of Sri M.N. Seetharaman, former Head NAL, Bangalore. One of the pioneering library and information scientist of our country at the formative years of the development of library and information systems in our country. I had earliest privilege of visiting the NAL Library in late 1965 as student of library science and on study tour since then I have been in contact with Mr. Seetharaman who was very courteous to and would welcome all young professionals with his fair guidance and help. After I moved to Bangalore my contact with him become closure and I would often visit NAL Library for help and guidance. Mr. Seetharaman's all achievements have been narrated by Dr. IRN Goudar in another post on this forum. But one incident I remember always is the Online Information Retrieval Service he had organised( as a Pilot Project) in 1984 as one of the participant. It was an uphill task and the most notable achievement of Mr. Seetharaman apart from his organisation and professional skills. The NAL got connected to Frescati, Rome via European Space Agency and that to at a time when the Telecommunication technology was in it infancy in India then. Myself and with my IIMB Colleagure Smt. Shailaja participated actively in the project and we could also search several databases online. It was one of the most fascinating experience to reminisce. Mr. Seetharaman was Life Member of KALA and would participate in its activities very enthusiastically and also would extend his cooperation in its professional pursuits. Even at the older age he was very active and would offer his valuable consultancies to the need. Very noble, soft spoken and above all very friendly with all. I have personally known his many achievements communicated through the NAL Newsletter to enlighten the professionals. On behalf of Governing Council, on behalf all members of KALA and on my personal behalf condole the passing away of Mr. M.N.Seetharaman, pray Al Mighty May his Soul Rest in Peace. Sad Demise of Mr. S.Thammaiah,

To All LIS Professionals, It is very sad to know that Mr. S.Thammaiah, former Director, Dept. of Public Libraries, Karnataka expired on Thursday, 13th May 2021 at his home in Nandini Layout. Though a very active professionals but in recent years he almost had lost contact with his fraternity. Mr. Thammaiah completed his B.Lib.Sc. from Karnatak University, Dharwad, in 1966. He was one of the earliest to serve the Department, as the Public Libraries Act came in being in 1966. He was one among the few from the Department who had a thorough knowledge of the Karnataka State Public Libraries Act, 1965. Mr. Thammaiah served the department in various capacities, from Technical Assistant to Director of the Department, and had also served as Chief Librarian (Now Dy Director) in Mangalore, Gulbarga and Bangalore Jayanagar City Central Library. His unique achievement in the Department was to undertake a computerised Stock Verification of 20 Lakh books the entire collection under the City Central Library Jayanagar and its Branches, then using the dBASE-IV DBMS progrmming. On behalf of Karnataka State Library Association, and on behalf of its members I offer my heartfelt condolences at the sad demise of Mr. Thammaiah. and to his bereaved family to bear the loss. Dear Friends, I am deeply saddened to hear the passing away of Mr. Dandapani, the former Librarian of the British Library, Bangalore. He was a dynamic, enterprising, and indeed a very popular librarian in Bangalore during his tenure as a Librarian. He had made the British Library almost like a "Talk of the Town". When I was working with the British Council Library, Mumbai in the 1980s, I used to meet him frequently and could notice his leadership qualities and remember his ever smiling face and caring attitude. With his demise, the LIS profession has lost one of the admired librarians. I pray God to give his family members enough strength and courage to bear this loss. May the noble soul rest in peace.
