dear professional friends, with heavy heart and mind i want to inform u all that Prof Kaula, an eminent scholar, great teacher, internationally renowned library scientist, teacher to teachers and Padmasri awardee is no more to us. Prof Kaula is 85 years age. Another bright star of the LIS profession Prof Kaula is no more. Today afternoon around at 12.00 noon due to cardiac arrest Prof Kaula left for heavenly abode. tomorrow tht is 31 Aug in the afternoon he will be cremated at Lucknow. there will be havan on 2 sept morning. as a student of Prof Kaula, i am indebted to him. today my survival in the filed is his blessings. Prof Kaula was teacher to most of the south Indian professionals who got admission due to Prof Kaula. He is real disciple of SRR and he mentioned his gratefulness to SRR at every place. On behalf of my self , my family and professional friends I express the heart felt condolences to his family. It is irreparable loss to the profession. I pray God to rest his soul in peace. With the advent of information and communication technologies and the automation of libraries, information and knowledge have become a global phenomenon. Under these challenging circumstances, the role of librarian is totally changed. He/she is now viewed as an information manager, information navigator, cyber engineer, information disseminator, knowledge manager, etc. The specific way of managing scientific and technical information has become a major task for those who are expected to select, process, handle and transmit information. The currency of the information as well as the facilities for a rapid exchange of information are needed among scholars; scientists and even ordinary citizens. There has therefore been change in the goal and policy of those who are engaged in this task at different levels. Private organizations and Trusts/Endowments have come forward to help in promoting and encouraging those who are engaged in this task as stated above. Recognition and honour are to be given to those who apart from serving the profession, help in motivating those who want to achieve excellence in the field. The Trust of Prof Kaula Endowment for Library and information Science has completed 25 years. It is our pleasure to state that the tiny sapling cultivated by the Board of Trustees in March 1975, has grown into a mighty tree through the efforts of the members of the Trust and their services. In fact it was Dr P S G Kumar who had initiated the work of the Trust which is now well known all over the world. I record with appreciation the programme and work of the Trust particularly in selection of distinguished experts from different countries and from our own country for the two prestigious Gold medals instituted by the Trust. A period of 25 years is a milestone in the history of the Trust. It is our hope and prayer that the Trust may grow further with innovative and expanded activities in the coming years to enable it to celebrate its Golden Jubilee when professionals from future generations would be able to appreciate and benefit from its activities. The contents of this brief report are given overleaf. We would welcome any suggestion for the extension of the work of the Endowment.
