Invitation to participate in the 2021 Library Automation Perceptions survey

The 2021 International Library Automation Perceptions survey conducted through Library Technology Guides is now underway. This survey, conducted annually since 2007, provides an important opportunity for libraries to register their perceptions of the strategic automation products they use, organizations that provide these products, and the quality of support delivered. The survey also probes at considerations for migrating to new systems and the level of interest in open source products. While the numeric rating scales support the statistical results of the study, the narrative comments provide even more interesting insight into the current state of library automation satisfaction. Comments will be published in the survey results, though redacted to conceal any text that might identify the individual or organization responding. Please help your fellow libraries who might be in the process of evaluating library automation options by responding to the survey. Any information regarding vendor performance and product quality can be helpful when making strategic decisions regarding automation alternatives. A large number of responses strengthen the impact of the survey and the subsequent report. This survey also provides constructive criticism to the vendors involved to help them address any prevailing issues or concerns. If you have responded in previous years, please respond again this year to help identify any trends regarding improvement or worsening of the products or support services. A few decades ago requesting a copy of a scholarly article could be made to the author(s). The author would normally spare a copy from his quota of reprints or from his own file copy. This was a primary source in my days (I retired from active librarianship around 2000). In fact ISI used to sell specialised Reprint Request Post cards - They used to contain auto-carbon peel off parts. The address could be peeled and pasted on To: page of the postcard. The reprint (bibliographical) info per se could be peeled off and pasted in your file for reference etc Has this practice disappeared? Do authors not get reprints for personal distribution? Has the practice been banned by publishers ? Am I asking a "Rip Van Winkle" Question? Thanks if anyone could respond! Fourth International Conference on Science & Technology Metrics (STMet 2023) November 13-14, 2023 BITS Pilani Dubai Campus. UAE (www.socio.org.uk/stm) Building metrics is the key to science and technology measurement and translating the measures to work better. The metric is not confined to drawing numbers and analyze. Selecting a metric depends on synthesising multiple directions and evidence-based data. Producing benchmarks and standards in science and technology evaluation and implementing them with real data mark the full-fledged system. Quite recently, we are witnessing new metrics-based models emerging to reflect science and technology growth. The proposed Science and Technology Metrics (STMet 2022) conference is concerned with how many metrics may involve the assessment of different aspects of science and technology, which are best expressed using different approaches. Besides the standard conference track and the Doctoral Symposium, STMetrics will host several workshops and tutorials related to the conference's theme. The workshops provide participants with a friendly, interactive atmosphere for presenting novel ideas and discussing their application of metrics in Science and Technology Systems. The goal of the tutorials is to enable the participants to familiarise themselves with theoretical and practical aspects and application of metrics. The proposed conference comprises invited talks, presentations, tutorials, workshops and discussions. The STMet has tracks on specialised topics. The STMet address the below themes, not limited. All submitted papers will be reviewed by a double-blind (at least three reviewers), and participative peer review. The review process will enable the selection process of those accepted for their presentation at the international conference. Authors of accepted papers who registered in the conference can access the evaluations and possible feedback provided by the reviewers who recommended the acceptance of their papers, so they can improve the final version of their papers accordingly. Mentoring support is available to young researchers and authors from developing countries. Selected post-conference modified versions of the papers will be published in the following journals. 1. Before Joining INFLIBNET Centre, he worked for the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru and the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad. Currently, he is a part of the Software, Research and Development group at the Centre.
