Dear Sir/Madam, The much awaited Right to Information Act has come into force in India.And already we have seen and heard that there is a great demand for information which are vital to its functioning and also to contain corruption and to hold Governments and their instrumentalities accountable to the governed.But Govt Authorities have totally neglected the library and Information Professionals, most of the people who have appointed as public Information Officer have came from Journalism and mass communication." Public Information Officer" job is best suited for LIS professionals where the skills of storage , organise and dissemination of Information is highly required.Already there are instances that Public Information Officers have failed to provide right information to the right people at a right time.This is because of lack of skills to organise and storage of Information.This is the right time to Library Association and Universities to pressurize Govt. appoint library and Information professionals as " Public Information Officer" and this will definitely helps people to have information quickly whenever they need.This will not only helps govt to function smoothly and huge opportunities for LIS professionals as well. NEED OF THE SEMINAR: Communication is an important aspect for the survival and growth of an individual as well as an organization. Effective communication paves way for good inter-personal relationship. Several studies have been conducted not only on this topic but also to track the barriers of communication. The root cause of a problem within an organization is due to the lack of effective communication and therefore to improve the working atmosphere, one has to adapt oneself to the changing modes of the society and develop the needed skills from time to time so as to communicate effectively. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT's) are responsible for the emergence of Digital Technological revolution and this has brought before us the Digital Age. Libraries, like any other organizations, necessitates to adapt the applications of digital technology to provide more faster and efficient services to the users and hence, it has become the need to inculcate effective communication skills along with core competencies to cope up with the emerging trends for enhanced and effective communication in the libraries along with manpower. Our initiative in organizing this seminar on "Communication Skills for Digital Age Libraries" is an endeavor to contribute our efforts towards the enhancement and needs of the library fraternity. He has completed his Engineering Degree from the Naval Engineering College , Lonavala, and Post Graduation in Weapons System Engineering from the Naval Post Graduate School , Jamnagar . He volunteered for Submarine service, and underwent specialist training at the Submarine Training School , Vladivostok . He is also a graduate of the National Defence College , New Delhi from which he was awarded the Master of Defence Science degree from the Allahabad University . After a distinguished career in the Indian Navy, Commodore Shekhar has conducted leadership workshops, seminars and group discussions to officers of the Indian Navy, Defence Training Academy , Academics at the refresher course programs in the University of Madras and foundation course students at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Southern Regional Centre.
