The main objectives of the college is based on Sree Narayana Guru's principles i.e., to provide opportunities of higher education to children of backward and underprivileged strata of society without any discrimination of caste, creed, religion and language. The college enrolls students for the studies leading to the three years integrated course of B.Com. Degree. The college also runs an Advanced Computer Technology Course for its junior and degree students at a subsidized fee. In 2004 the college was accredited by NAAC with grade 'B'. The College is moving a step ahead to enhance the standard, quality and excellence in the field of higher education and has planned to organize a seminar on "Communication Skills for Digital Age Libraries" to bring more efficiency in the functioning of libraries. LIBRARY, THE SOUL OF COLLEGE: The library over here has a well-stocked collection in Commerce, allied Disciplines and books in various other vistas of knowledge. The library also procures leading journals, periodicals and newspapers. Perspective plans are to convert the present library into a digital library to impart better and effective services to users. NEED OF THE SEMINAR: Communication is an important aspect for the survival and growth of an individual as well as an organization. Effective communication paves way for good inter-personal relationship. Several studies have been conducted not only on this topic but also to track the barriers of communication. The root cause of a problem within an organization is due to the lack of effective communication and therefore to improve the working atmosphere, one has to adapt oneself to the changing modes of the society and develop the needed skills from time to time so as to communicate effectively. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT's) are responsible for the emergence of Digital Technological revolution and this has brought before us the Digital Age. Libraries, like any other organizations, necessitates to adapt the applications of digital technology to provide more faster and efficient services to the users and hence, it has become the need to inculcate effective communication skills along with core competencies to cope up with the emerging trends for enhanced and effective communication in the libraries along with manpower. Our initiative in organizing this seminar on "Communication Skills for Digital Age Libraries" is an endeavor to contribute our efforts towards the enhancement and needs of the library fraternity. We sincerely hope, that the outputs of the seminar would be instrumental in building up the required communication and core competency skills to communicate effectively in the digital environment. PARTICIPANTS: Librarians, Teachers, Research Scholars, Students of library schools and also for others interested in the theme.
