Dear Professional Colleagues and Friends, Hope you all are aware that SALIS has taken a mass initiative of conducting a Rally for promoting ‘Reading Habit’ at 7 places (Chennai, Trichy, Madurai, Coimbatore, Erode, Tirunelveli and Pondichery) in Tamil Nadu on a same day i.e 15th Nov. 2014. The initiative has been well accepted and supported by many professionals and well wishers as it is the need of the hour. Puthiathalamurai TV Channel has joined with SALIS as this initiative is for social cause. However SALIS requires support and cooperation from all the members of SALIS and LIS fraternity to make this initiative a successful one at the mega level. Hence an appeal to each and every one of you for the following: 1. Your Participation in the Rally 2. Resource mobilization – sponsorships in terms of money or materials like t-shirts/ caps with slogans, brochure, book mark, snacks, water bottles, books, etc. to the participants 3. From 27-29 November 2014 On the Theme 'Re-inventing LIS Education Programmes in India: Challenges and Opportunities in the Digital Era' Jointly Organized by Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (IATLIS) and Central University of Himachal Pradesh IATLIS: Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (IATLIS) is a professional association of more than 600 teachers and professionals in Library and Information Science in India. Since its inception in 1969, IATLIS has been active in taking up several issues of LIS Education in India especially relating to the development of curriculum, teaching methods, infrastructure, teacher training, etc. It actively works for the promotion of the professional interests of LIS teachers. As part of its activities, it conducts national seminars, workshops, and training programmes. It brings out its official organ ‘IATLIS Communications’ besides publishing conference volumes. This year the annual IATLIS conference is being held at the Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamshala at Shahpur (TAB), District Kangra. The Central University of Himachal Pradesh The Central University of Himachal Pradesh is established under the Central Universities Act 2009 (No. 25 of 2009) enacted by the Parliament. The University is funded and regulated by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The University became functional with the assumption of charge by the first Vice Chancellor on 20th January 2010.The University is hosting XXX IATLIS national conference on LIS Education jointly with the IATLIS from 27-29 November 2014. Theme of the Conference: 'Re-inventing LIS Education Programmes in India: Challenges and Opportunities in the Digital Era' Sub-themes: These sub-themes are not exhaustive, rather indicative only. Role and relevance of LIS Education in the digital era National Mission on Libraries and LIS education and Research Duration and levels of LIS education Core vs Specializations in LIS Education Infrastructure for LIS education in digital era. Faculty and its development for LIS education and research Students’ expectations from LIS education programmes Media and Information Literacy Health Information Literacy Role of social networks in LIS education Learning resources, teaching methods and tools Employable skills for the emerging market Panel Discussion Call for papers Original papers on the above themes or related themes are invited from professionals. The papers should be based on research surveys, case studies or action plans. Surveys on Internet use/E-Journals usage in libraries will not be accepted. Papers should not normally exceed 5,000 words or 16 double-spaced pages, besides tables, diagrams, etc. Also, each paper should contain an abstract, up to ten keywords, body of the paper, conclusion and references. The abstract should state in about 150 words the sum and substance of the paper. The conclusion should include the recommendations made in the paper. The keywords which describe the main issues discussed should be given in alphabetical order. The paper should also contain the author's name, designation, organisation, address, telephone, fax, and E-mail address. References at the end of the paper and their in-text citing should be according to APA Style manual. The following certificate should be attached with the submitted paper(s): “This is to certify that my/our paper entitled ------ is original, not copy-pasted, and is not published elsewhere.” Papers for the XXX IATLIS National Conference should reach General Secretary, IATLIS, Department of Library & Information Science, Punjabi University, Patiala – 147002 (Punjab) as a hard copy and also as an email attachment latest by 10 November 2014. There will be no extension after this date. The soft copy of the file should be a Microsoft Word .doc file only (not .docx) and it should be sent to through email to iatlis.patiala(a)gmail.com. Only those papers that are received in hard and soft copy both would be considered. Research Reviews A, PhD study has been completed and submitted for evaluation to the University on the topic entitled “Recent Trends of document Production in Electronic Age and Problems of their Classification in Indian Libraries: An analytical study with special reference to development of notational techniques” under the supervision of Dr. Arun Kumar Sinha, Ex-Course Co-ordinator/Director, P. G. Department of Library & Information Science, & Ex-Coordinator as Resource Person, UGC In-fonet Scheme (VSAT) , T. M. Bhagalpur University,Bhagalpur-812 007 and study completed by Md. Gulnawaz Azam, MLIS,NET,PGDCA, Research Scholar, P. G. Department of Library & Information Science, T. M. Bhagalpur University, Bhagalpur-812 007. The present submitted study has been focused mainly for the physical classification problem and carried out on the basis of Ranganathan prominent idea and his already laid facet formula as a tribute to the magic of the colon classification. In the study some useful methods has been incorporated with valuable suggestions in modification for the purpose. The study was centred basically to drove away the blame to Ranganathan that his Colon (CC,6 &7) and CCC both have not made any provision for treating non book material and to retrieve some perfect ways with useful suggestion for adopting such methods of Physical Classification by which the problem of treating specially the electronic form may be eliminated and pinpointed individualization can be achieved to fulfil the demand of Ranganathan 5laws too. It was also main effort of the study to residue out some appropriate means and ways so that the Colon may be used widely as user friendly and the method of Ranganathan for book classification can be used with any classification scheme of any nature or generation background. Thus the four basic characteristics in study have been detected, selected and suggested for the purpose in the study so that it can be easily used on computers. The study is also followed by very useful suggestions and conclusions with a view to be considered by the future generation of LIS subject and the persons involved in the revision task of CC7.
