Dear Forum Moderator I wish to get this posted on the LIS-Forum. Thanks and RegardsVandana Gambhir Dear all One of my student is doing a project on aviation industry onthe VISTARA airline. He is exploring theaviation sector in the domestic region and want to analyse the innovative moveof the recent firm “VISTARA”regarding the premium economy class and whether it should shift from productoriented to a market oriented approach and loose its unique point or it shouldcontinue as it is developing? There is hardly anythingavailable on Vistara airline in the public domain. Kindly let me know whichsources could be used to answer the following research questions. It would be a greathelp! Any comparative data,reports of the last 2 years will be useful. Outlineof the project: Doing research to analyse: About a new firm coming with a JV of TATASIA, where both thefirms are well established and known profoundly in their areas. Would look into- · Finance (majorly) · Marketing · Growth strategies · Product oriented vs. market oriented ResearchQuestion: “To study about thisnew innovative move by vistara i.e premium economy class and to analyze thechanges bought by this new firm with respect to the existing competitive firms”. It is important to know whether their innovative move in anestablished and competitive market is profitable/revenue generated or is only aburden for a new firm. Relatedquestions: • To what extent Vistara should reduce its prices inorder to compete with other low cost airlines like Indigo? • To what extent is club Vistara one of the bestmethod for customer repetition? • To what extent is Vistara affected by low pricedairlines? • How the international interline partners of Vistaracould attract customers to fly Vistara? • should Vistara keep giving premium services/foodin order to sustain in the market? • How much is the 51-49 jv affecting the aviationsector in terms of market share? With great pleasure I am extending a warm invitation to all the previous, preset and budding researchers to the Internal Open Viva-Voce of my 12th PhD Candidate - Mrs. Mamatha, N Librarian FGC, Kuvempunagar, Mysore - 23, scheduled to be held on the 10th of Feb'2017 at 4 PM at the MyDLIS seminar hall, Manasagangothri, Mysore-6.The topic assigned to her was- *'An assessment of the attitude towards collection security issues in college libraries'. *The investigator has used a combination of survey research methods. The tools used are Questionnaire, Interview Schedule and Physical verification of books to identify the extent of damage caused. Samples were drawn from the select first grade colleges affiliated to the University of Mysore. The researcher has used simple averages and some statistical techniques to test and verify the hypotheses. The examiners have highly appreciated the work, which is more or less from the conventional research domain in LIS in the IT age. The findings and the results of the study are useful to all libraries in general and first grade college libraries in particular. I once gain request all the LIS friends to join me in the celebrations of the award of PhD to Mrs. Mamatha, N. from the University of Mysore, which has just now completed its centenary celebrations. Separate seats for elderly & the disabled in 485 libraries

Hardly do we get to hear any positive news about our public library system. Here is some good news. I am drawn to this story as my current interest (after retirement) is targeted towards the elderly population - providing info relevant to senior citizens. ============= Separate seats for elderly & the disabled in 485 libraries Feb 6, 2017, Bengaluru, DHNS There is good news for senior citizens and the disabled who hesitate to visit libraries for lack of comfortable sitting space. Seats will be reserved for them in 485 libraries across Karnataka, including 27 city central libraries in Bengaluru. Mayor G Padmavathi has instructed the Department of Public Library to reserve seats in Bengaluru’s libraries, after a senior citizen, K Jagannath, approached her. But the department has gone a step further and decided to reserve seats in the State Central Library, city central libraries, district libraries and their branch libraries. Jagannath had told the mayor that he cannot make use of the city central library in Jayanagar because there are no separate seats for senior citizens. He also noticed that physically challenged people face a similar problem. “I am a voracious reader and visiting libraries has been my habit. But most of the time, I found no space to sit and read. At this age, I cannot stand for hours together. I feel there should be some space reserved for elderly people,” he said. He took his plight to the mayor and the Department for the Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens. Acknowledging his concerns, the mayor wrote to the Department of Public Library on January 4 to reserve space in Bengaluru’s libraries for elderly people, the physically challenged and women. Following the letter, the department has reserved four seats for elderly people and two for the disabled at the Jayanagar library. But Satish Kumar Hosamani, the director of the department, took a step further. In a circular on January 25, he directed all district-level public libraries and their branches to reserve seats for senior citizens and physically challenged people.
