The IFLA/OCLC Early Career Development Fellowship Program

Dear Library Professionals This program, jointly sponsored by the American Theological Library Association, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), OCLC Online Computer Library Center and OCLC PICA, provides early career development and continuing education for library and information science professionals from countries with developing economies. Program overview On an annual basis, up to five individuals, including a theological librarian, are selected for participation in this intensive five-week Fellowship program. Four weeks are based at OCLC's headquarters in Dublin, Ohio, USA; one week is based at OCLC PICA in Leiden, Netherlands. The program includes lectures, seminars and mentoring and gives Fellows opportunities to explore topics including information technologies, library operations and management, and global cooperative librarianship. The Fellows visit selected North American and European libraries, cultural heritage institutions and library organizations. The Fellows also observe portions of an OCLC Members Council meeting, gaining insight into issues affecting global library cooperation and the governance of a global library cooperative. Fellows give presentations about their home countries and libraries, meet leading practitioners and discuss real-world solutions to the challenges facing libraries today. Stern, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs of Hamline University, has added his signature to the SPARC list of U.S. university presidents and provosts endorsing open access to publicly-funded research and the Federal Research Public Access Act of 2006 (FRPAA). Please read the Handbook on Copyright and persuade publishing authors in your institution not to sign away all their rights to a journal publisher.
