Sir, According to my spontaneous opinion of Librarianship isSsearching for information and dissemination of correct information to people who are are in need of the information and in the bargain Librarians become more knowledgeable and they become needy persons in the society for the benefit of information. CMS at ACTREC library
by Satish Munnolli 08 Aug '08

08 Aug '08

ACTREC library has unveiled its new library home page on 7th of August 2008. It is available at http://library.actrec.gov.in:8080. The Web Content Management System (CMS or Web CMS) is designed and developed by using open source code software - Joomla 1.5.3 by two young Engineers (BITS, Goa) Mr Abhimanyu and Mr Arjun as a small project. The WCMS is used to manage and control a large, dynamic collection of Web material (HTML documents and their associated images). It facilitates document control, editing, and timeline management. A WCMS typically requires an experienced coder to install and add features at the beginning. But when it is installed and hosted on a server a non technical person can administer the contents of entire modules with ease and comfort. "Chromatophore" template (http://www.rockettheme.com) has been used for the design, style and to have a professional look. Colour chooser on top of the site a special feature will give an option for the end user to change colour scheme of site. Google insights is an extension of the updated Google Trends tool . Like Google Trends, the Insights software lets users type in search terms and then see search volume patterns over time as well as the top related and rising searches.,Eventhough it is primarily meant for market researches, for LIS professionals,i think it could be a new tool for studying user approaches.swift to the link http://google.com/insights/search/#<http://adwords.blogspot.com/2008/08/announcing-google-insights-for-search.h…> jasimudeen.s Thrissur -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.

Fw: ERIC Unveils New Look, Expanded Coverage
by Shamprasad Pujar 07 Aug '08

07 Aug '08

FYI -- Original Message -- From: bsmith70(a)csc.com To: diglib(a)infoserv.inist.fr Date: Wed, 6 Aug 2008 16:08:20 +0200 (METDST) Subject: [DIGLIB] ERIC Unveils New Look, Expanded Coverage ERIC Unveils New Look, Expanded Coverage August 6, 2008 Were pleased to announce two recent advances in ERIC of interest to librarians and all ERIC users: the addition of more than 130 new comprehensively indexed journals, and release of a redesigned and enhanced Web site at www.eric.ed.gov. Users can now search a richer collection of education-focused literature while taking advantage of improvements that speed information discovery on the public ERIC Web site. In addition, a new area just for librarians includes useful information for patron support and collection maintenance. New Journals in ERIC As of June 30, 2008, ERIC has added more than 3,600 new records from newly acquired journals. Work is underway to increase coverage even further by seeking additional partnerships with publishers of both journal and non-journal literature. New journals are indexed from 2004 forward, except for titles indexed prior to ERICs 2004 transition to an all-electronic service. Once recent titles have been acquired and indexed, ERIC will acquire 2002-2003 electronic back issues of previously indexed titles to prevent gaps in journal coverage. The ERIC Team would like to give special thanks to all members of the library community who have collaborated with ERIC to make the acquisition of new resources a reality. If you would like to recommend an education-related title or potential source for grey literature for inclusion in ERIC, go to "For Librarians" on the ERIC Web site and submit your suggestion using the link provided under Getting Involved. Redesigned Web Site ERIC released a redesigned Web site (http://www.eric.ed.gov) on August 3. Highlights include: A major restructuring features clearer, more intuitive paths to information, making the site easier to use. A completely new and expanded Help section that includes brief tutorials, a glossary, and a searchable index. Help tools have been integrated into the ERIC Web site. How do I links and help tips on key fields and features provide direct access to information that helps you take advantage of ERICs robust search tools and submit documents. A new section, "For Librarians", consolidates information of interest to the library community into a single location. This area includes flyers, brochures, lists of ERIC microfiche, links to frequently used help topics, and other relevant information, including ways to provide feedback about ERIC. Lighter visual design, so pages load faster and new graphics refresh the site while retaining ERICs look and feel. For more information about ERICs new journals and the redesigned site (including a detailed list of whats changed), see the rotating features area on the home page of the ERIC Web site Dr S.M. Pujar Deputy Librarian IGIDR, Mumbai, India -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.
