Solr vs Elasticsearch for Digital Library

Dear Forum, When it comes to search engine for digital library frameworks, Solr has become the choicest tool. It is used by DSpace. Fedora Repository has mentioned use of Solr and Elasticsearch alternatively (Source: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/FEDORA6x) It would be interested to know your inputs on selection of a search engine that can search full text and metadata for different resource types, including micro-data. It operates on four broad verticals. One is to strengthen research collections and access in its domain. The second is to push the frontiers of research in archival sciences in India, forging intersections with scholarship in law, ethics, information theory and the semantic web. The third is to build capacity and public awareness through education, training and programming, from school to professional practice. And the fourth is to reimagine the archives as a way to strengthen public spaces and be part of the commons through vibrant public engagement and helping with the development of a broader collective of archives across the country (https://milli.link/) In 2020, NCBS formalized the creation of a Chair in the History and Culture of Science which also supports the activities of the Archives via a generous grant from TNQ Technologies. The 2000-square-feet physical centre includes space for research, processing, exhibitions, recording, and a leading-edge storage facility with monitors for temperature, light, humidity, air quality, water, fire, pests, and noise. Over 50,000 processed objects across 18 collections are in various forms, ranging from paper-based manuscripts to negatives to photographs, books, fine art, audio recordings, scientific equipment, letters, and field and lab notes. By the end of this year, this will increase three-fold to a publicly accessible catalogue for 150,000 objects. This is significantly due to this generous donation from the Trustees of the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation of the archival papers of Professor MS Swaminathan. Metric is not confined to drawing numbers and analyze. Selecting a metric depends on synthesizing multiple directions and evidence-based data. Producing benchmarks and standards in science and technology evaluation and implementing them with real data mark the full-fledged system. We are witnessing new metrics-based models emerging to reflect science and technology growth. The proposed Science and Technology Metrics (STMet 2022) conference concerns how many metrics may involve the assessment of different aspects of science and technology, which are best expressed using different approaches. Besides the standard conference track and the Doctoral Symposium, STMetrics will host several workshops and tutorials related to the theme of the conference. The purpose of the workshops is to provide participants with a friendly, interactive atmosphere for presenting novel ideas and discussing their application of metrics in Science and Technology systems. The goal of the tutorials is to enable the participants to familiarize themselves with theoretical and practical aspects and the application of metrics.
