Please post this advertisement: Contractual positions available for LIS professionals A Human Resource Agency is inviting applications from qualified library professionals. Selected candidates will be placed at the library of Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. After filling out currently vacant positions, a panel of such professionals will be prepared which will be valid for one year. Depending on future vacancies, professionals from the panel may be called for interview. Other important information regarding these appointments: 1. The candidates will be recruited by the Human Resource Agency. All positions carry the benefits of PF, ESI etc. 2. The recruited candidates will be placed at the library of IIM Calcutta. 3. Candidates must possess M. Lib.Sc. However, candidates possessing B.Lib.Sc and with exceptional experience of working in other places may also be considered. 4. Depending on experiences and performance in the interview, the selected candidates will be placed in one of the following pay-group: (i) Rs 18000/ p.m. for candidates with working experiences of 18-24 months in large academic/technical libraries (ii) Rs 16000/ p.m. for candidates with working experiences of 12-15 months in large academic/technical libraries (iii) Rs 14000/ p.m. for candidates with little or no exposure to library work but who would be able to establish their interest in work during the interview. 5. Selected candidates will have to perform shift duty along with other existing professionals in this category. 6. Dear All, With an aim to get people in Bangalore more aware of Open Access and how to improve the current situation in India. The Indian Institute of Science and the Centre for Internet and Society are holding an afternoon workshop on Wednesday the 2nd of November on the topic of 'Open Access to Academic Knowledge'. The event will take place in the Seminar Hall of the National Centre for Science Information, within the Indian Institute of Science from 14:30 to 17:00.The event will involve a few short presentations and then a discussion. It would be great to have all kinds of people attend and share ideas on improving Open Access in India. IATLIS Awards – Call for Nominations In the last general body meeting of the Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (IATLIS) held on 18 November 2010 at University of Pune, Pune, the increase in the number of LIS teachers and IATLIS members was highly appreciated. In view of the increase of LIS teachers and members, it was resolved to give the following awards on an annual basis. Therefore, IATLIS invites nominations from LIS teachers /professionals / researchers for the following two awards: 1. IATLIS – Motiwale Best LIS Teacher Award 2011 2. IATLIS – Mrs. Ratna Laxman Rao Best LIS Teacher / Professional Award 2011 Eligibility for IATLIS – Motiwale Best LIS Teacher Award, and IATLIS – Mrs. Ratna Laxman Rao Best LIS Teacher / Professional Award: Executive Council Members of IATLIS are not eligible to be nominated for these awards. The nominee should have at least 10 years of teaching experience at the post-graduate level or 10 years professional experience at a senior level, and should be in service. A person can receive the award only once and one person can nominate only one LIS teacher / professional for each award at a time. Nominations on plain paper should be accompanied by bio-data, list of publications, details of professional activities, and contribution to IATLIS activities. The nominations will be considered by an Awards Committee constituted by the IATLIS Executive Committee. An award will not be given in case majority of the Committee Members feel that no one has been found suitable for that award. Nominations in quadruplicate (four copies) with all the supporting documents should reach The General Secretary, IATLIS, Department of Library and Information Science, Punjabi University, Patiala 147002 (Punjab) on or before 15 November 2011. In addition to four copies of nominations in hard copy form, a soft copy of nominations should also be sent to the General Secretary, IATLIS by email at iatlis.patiala(a)gmail.com. Dear Friends I would like to know the policy followed by other libraries for giving member clearance certificate at the time of retirement / resignation especially when the documents issued are lost by the member. The documents being various types such as: CDROMs - received with books / journals Only CDROMs / DVD - but now unavailable for purchase Loose Issues - Very old Working Papers (Received on gratis) Out of print books Annual reports Special reports received as complimentary Gratis documents but priced publications Gratis documents with no price mentioned Old Books - Latest edition if not available Bound Volume of Journal The main concern is how to decide the cost for above mentiond documents. Kindly share your own library procedure / policy which will be very useful. This is very important topic hence your inputs will be valuable. Thanks in advance.
