Some put a dot or a star etc to know if they have read it earlier. This reminds me of the practice of writing accession number or putting library rubber stamp / seal on designated pages of (text) (reference) books likely to be stolen. I used to put library stamp on p 107, 207 etc. If a book is stolen and recovered, even if title page having library seal / number is torn, p 107 / p 207 would remain in tact. Pawar also said they will soon fast and protest the civic body’s actions and demand a library for the senior citizens. The protest has been planned by the president of Jesht Nagrik Sevabhavi Sanstha (JNSS) president Dinkar Pawar and his associates. They are questioning the alleged selective targeting by the civic officials and plan to get the library back. The NMMC anti-encroachment department had on Wednesday demolished the library that had been set up in Sector 4 in Ghansoli. Senior citizens in Ghansoli have planned to fast, to protest the demolition of a library by the anti-encroachment department of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC). They are questioning the alleged selective targeting by the civic officials and plan to get the library back. The protest has been planned by the president of Jesht Nagrik Sevabhavi Sanstha (JNSS) president Dinkar Pawar and his associates. Rohit Thackeray, an anti-encroachment official said, “We had received complaints about the library being set up sans any sanction. Authors: Muthu Madhan, Subbiah Gunasekaran, Subbiah Arunchalam * Abstract:* The evaluation of performance in scientific research at any level – whether at the individual, institutional, research council or country level – is not easy. Traditionally, research evaluation at the individual and institutional levels has depended largely on peer opinion, but with the rapid growth of science over the last century and the availability of databases and scientometric techniques, quantitative indicators have gained importance. Both peer review and metrics are subject to flaws, more so in India because of the way they are used. Government agencies, funding bodies and academic and research institutions in India suffer from the impact factor and h-index syndrome. The uninformed use of indicators such as average and cumulative impact factors and the arbitrary criteria stipulated by agencies such as the University Grants Commission, Indian Council of Medical Research and the Medical Council of India for selection and promotion of faculty have made it difficult to distinguish good science from the bad and the indifferent. The exaggerated importance given by these agencies to the number of publications, irrespective of what they report, has led to an ethical crisis in scholarly communication and the reward system in science. These agencies seem to be unconcerned about the proliferation of predatory journals and conferences. They are characterized by different specific structures and functions, by varied ways of relating to technology, and used in a plurality of contexts by diverse communities. The underlying common factor among the different KOSs is that they have been designed to support the organization of knowledge and information in order to make their management and retrieval easier. With the advent of World Wide Web and the Digital Library, in the 21st century, the emerging knowledge in KOS has contributed significantly towards improving the ability to collect and organizing information by the integration of formal and technological aspects, such as the concepts of interoperability, user interface, visualization etc. In this presentation, the relationship of Knowledge Organisation with KOS will be explored through the analysis of various stages in the evolution of KOS, major types of KOS, applications of KOS, and the various issues and challenges involved in developing and implementing KOS. There is a need for a system which can enhance the quality of health and use daily generated data in medical practices for better and efficient services. World Health Organization (WHO) has identified Health Information Systems (HIS) as critical for achieving health for all, as its objective is not only to gain information but also to improve the health care services. HIS captures, stores, manages, disseminate information related to the health of individuals and organizational activities that works within the health sector. In this presentation, we will primarily focus on different components and their functions, different standards followed by tools and technologies used for increasing work efficiency of HIS. Application of e-health & m-health, which is an electronic process to collect health data of patients and provide health care information to the various stakeholders (e.g., practitioners, researchers, doctors, students) over the mobiles and e-platforms, will be discussed.
