Dear all Many times during international conferences people from abroad is invited as speaker/resource person etc. But do you really know their contribution and innovation in the job? Except understanding that they are having some different skin than Indians? Try to make webometrics study between these invited persons and organisers, in many cases you will find some mutual relationship between them either directly or indirectly. Most of the cases they are doing and managing the same what was passed by their ancestors like us in profession. I don't have much experience on physically visiting abroad but interacting a lot with many professionals abroad online and sharing our knowledge. I feel we have the same potentials as they have but it's a matter of proper utilisations. Dear young library professionals please do some homework before participation in any event and evaluate what knowledge you are going to get at the end of the event else you are just going to become part of crowd. The American Library Association is now accepting applications for the Robert L. Oakley Memorial Copyright Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to an individual or a team of individuals who meet eligibility criteria. ALA and the Library Copyright Alliance established the Robert L. Oakley Memorial Scholarship to support research and advanced study for librarians in their early-to-mid-careers who are interested and/or active in the fields that Robert Oakley was expert in: intellectual property, public policy, copyright and their impacts on libraries and the ways libraries serve their communities. The scholarship aims to encourage and expand interest in and knowledge of these aspects of librarianship. The scholarship may be used for equipment, expendable supplies, travel necessary to conduct, attend conferences, release from library duties or other reasonable and appropriate research expenses. Applicants must demonstrate interest in or be professional actively in copyright and public policy and their impacts on libraries and the ways libraries serve their communities. Highest consideration will be given to applicants who are librarian(s) in their early-to-mid-careers. A Review Committee will be made up of the members of the ALA Copyright, Legislation, Advocacy, and Education Network (CLEAN) in discussion with the Library Copyright Alliance. Dear Prof. Khaiser Jahan Begam, The question that you have raised about the grouping of our decipline (LIS) in a university set up is quite interesting. Also, the fact that the library professionals who are known primarily for their organising skills, are still struggling to classify their own subject (LIS) in the universe of knowledge, is equally interesting. As we all know, the LIS is a multidisciplinary subject that derives theories, concepts, methods and tools from various other disciplines to organise the knowledge properly. We extensively use the 'technology' to make our work of organising the knowlege systematically and to provide an easy and quick access to it for the benefit of our users. But, the extensive use of technology cannot be a ground to place the LIS under the ' Faculty of Technology'. We always use scientific methods to study the information needs of our users and adopt scientific approach to organise and manage the collection of information resources. But this will not support our decision to place the LIS under the ' Faculty of Science'. The ultimate aim of our profession is to provide right information to the right person at the right time in order to help him contribute to the development of the society. Hence, the only 'right' place to categorise the LIS would be the 'Faculty of Social Sciences' . A majority of the universities have already done this. These are my personal views. Dear all Most of the time we used to promote either ourselves or some library activities on social media but showing unity in national interest and encouraging others to do so is an excellent example. AMU Library system and its staff put a nice example for all which celebrated Republic Day and broadcast the video.
