The open access movement emerged with the hope of making research papers freely accessible to all without any barrier , but as Harnad points out the inertia among scientists has hampered progress. For example, three major agencies in India, viz, the Department of Science and Technology, Department of Biotechnology and the Council of Scientific & Industrial research,have open access mandates that require all researchers working in laboratories under them and those receiving any kind of support from them to place their published papers in institutional repositories whichin turn are harvested by a central repository. The Biological information systems serves various types of data regarding a certain species, ranging from ecological distribution, taxonomy and molecular biology to literature, multimedia etc. For handling different types of datasets these systems rely on some tools. The main objective of digital image processing is to visually enhance and statistically evaluate some part or aspect of an image not readily available in its original form. We find examples of image processing in our daily lives mostly in the medical field like CT-Scan and MRI etc. Originally digital image processing started in the field of remote sensing for weather forecasting,traffic control,navigation and so on. The last Conclave was held in Pune in partnership with the Information Resource Centre, TCS, Pune. The forthcoming event - LTC 2018 - is being organised in partnership with Goa University Library. LTC2018 will not only continue to focus on Koha, but will expand the scope covering a wide range of technologies that are redefining the future of libraries. This year’s seminar topic is, Electronic Resource Management using CORAL for LIS professionals. It is a one-day seminar targeted for the benefit of Library and Information Science (LIS) students and budding LIS professionals. The details of the seminar are given below: Title: 13th Dr. TB Rajashekar Memorial Seminar (2017): CORAL – Open source electronic resource management tool Date: November 18, 2017 (Third Saturday) Venue: Choksi Hall, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru - 560012 About Seminar Theme: Electronic resource management (ERM) is the practices and techniques used by librarians and library staff to track the selection, acquisition, licensing, access, maintenance, usage, evaluation, retention, and de-selection of a library's electronic information resources (Wikipedia). Number of proprietary ERM tools is available for the effective management of E-resources, to name few Innovative Interfaces, Serial Solutions, ExLibris etc. CORAL is an open source electronic resource management system built by the University of Notre Dame’s Hesburgh Libraries. It is designed to be both simple and highly customizable – each module can be installed independently or used together depending on your library’s needs. Objective of the Seminar: To demonstrate the basic features of CORAL, Installation and configuration, and various modules. At the end of the seminar, the participants should have a clear understanding of CORAL functionalities. Resource Persons: NCSI-Net members who have practical experience in using CORAL and Infographics tools for managing online resources and reporting the usage of online resources, will serve as resource persons Registration Fee: Rs. 300 for Students (Should carry ID Card) and Rs. 600 for working professionals, for NCSI-Net members Rs. 250. The Sarada Ranganathan Endowment for Library Science in association with IIT Madras, RCIS, Informatics (India) and Indian Public Library Movement has organized an international conference as part of the celebrations. DELNET, KALA, ISKO and few other organizations are our partners in this event. The idea is to look beyond Ranganathan in the context of the needs of the digital era.
