The initiative has moved from a rough concept to an organization <https://ce-strategy.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=4c6f7c8e5ae0ddb11edac…> with a steering committee, working groups, project manager, and implementation plan. We are interested in what services are offered, by libraries and with what success. We have a special interest in the situation regarding predatory journals (defined in the survey) and how it is being dealt with. The survey will only take 10 -15 minutes of your time. Dear LIS Professional Friends, We all have been under Lock down status due to Covid-19 Pandemic disease; we are almost done and need to travel a little more to come out with the deadly disease and stay home for a little while more. Due to this lock down status all the LIS Schools have been closed. The LIS Syllabus which was to be covered is incomplete. The students are stranded in their houses. Hence, in this direction LIS Academy desires to extend its assistance to the LIS education sector. We are planning to organize a series of Webinars for the benefit of the students and teachers of the LIS profession. LIS Academy will provide the paid Zoom platform which can accommodate up to 10,000 participants. We request the LIS Teachers / Students to suggest some of the important 2 or 3 topics in each of the common subject to be covered in the first phase of 10 webinars.I request that LIS professionals who have expertise in any of these areas can submit an abstract of the topic which they want to deliver a lecture on webinar to the students. The teachers/ professionals who deliver lectures on the Webinar will be given a Certificate of Appreciation and those who get highest marks in the participant’s feedback will be awarded as BEST TEACHER in the forthcoming LIS Academy Conference scheduled during 27-29 August 2020 at Central University of Hyderabad. The librarians have to be aware of the TERMITE ATTACK, especially those libraries which have maintained archival and rare book collections. As the libraries do not open and function during lock down period, the collection is easily susceptible for termite attack. On weekly basis it is necessary to open the library and verify the book resources housed especially on ground floor. PROTECTION OF YOUR LIBRARY RESOURCES DURING LOCK_DOWN

Dear All Librarian Friends, As you are aware there has been a “Lock-down” throughout thecountry due to COVID-19. I am sure youmight be worried about the your libraryand the precious collection. Please think over as it is likely that there issome concern for the Collection particularly big University Libraries. Recentlywe had rains in Karnataka. I presume that when you last locked-down yourlibrary doors, might have also shut-down the windows.. The Rains will create some fogging inside theStack rooms and also it might affect all your electronic gadgets especially LCDmonitors. Imagine a situation when youare driving a car suddenly it startsraining and you raise the window glasses. After a while inside the car you find“Fogging” if your car doesn’t haveair-condition the Wind Shield will becovered with Fog and similar situation is created inside the Library Stacks. SoI think you make a visit to your library with one or two assistants, if youfind some excess humidity open thewindows for an hour or so and run theCeiling fans in full for that duration. It is important for the libraries in Hillyareas and if you have room heaters use them for an hour. After hearing much about his professional contributions at BHEL-R&D and ICRISAT, Hyderabad, I visited both these places in 1987 to have a personal experience about his contributions. R&D-Library at Kirloskar Electric Co.Ltd., Bengaluru, where I worked nearly 24 years, was getting Tech abstracts prepared by Library of BHEL-R&D for many years and found beneficial to R&D Engineers. Later, I also had an occasion to meet and discuss with him about "New-Gen-Lib software" at a Workshop organised by & conducted at Institute of Information Studies, Bengaluru. Even though he was much knowledgeable person he was friendly and free to discuss any professional topic with professional colleagues. May his soul rest in peace. Dear Professional colleagues, This is regarding the opinion of Dr.Gopakumar and Mr.Satish regarding the felicitations. In this context, I would like to share my opinion. There is nothing wrong in felicitating the deserving LIS professionals. But, unfortunately, now it becomes a big joke. Recently, a professional association, organised a programme and in the invitation it was mentioned that Lifetime Achievement Award will be awarded to senior LIS professionals. I have been requested by the President to accept the Lifetime Achievement Award. But, I have declined to accept the award as it should be awarded only to the Senior Professionals who have completed a long years of service with significant professional contributions. Due to my preoccupation, I was not able attend the program also as a participant. But, later I came to know that almost all the LIS professional who attended the programme were given Lifetime Achievement Award including the President of the Association. I think this kind of things should be stopped to ensure respect to the Awards. Dear fellow LIS Professionals, I, Dr.M.Leeladharan, Secretary, Puducherry-SALIS sent a mail in the LIS forum few days back calling for applications for Felicitation to Honour the Ph.D. Awardees/NET/SET holders/Retired professionals as part of “One day National Workshop on Scholarly Writing & Research Ethics” on 25.04.2020 at the French Institute of Pondicherry, Pondicherry. I circulated the mail in the LIS forum as it is the most subscribed forum among LIS professionals in India. This step was taken as many of the Puducherry region members have moved to other states and have changed their contact numbers and mail ids too. I wish to clarify that Felicitation “is an expression used to wish someone happiness or to praise or show approval:” (Cambridge Dictionary). We intended to congratulate only the *NET/SET/Ph.D. awardees and the retired professionals* in a gathering of the Puducherry LIS professionals. I am not here to raise a wage of war by words but rather clarify the misconceptions. We called for self-nominations only to see their willingness for participation in the One-day workshop and felicitation at the end. To my understanding, I do not find any mistake in congratulating somebody on the said grounds in a professional gathering. Thanks for raising an issue and giving me an opportunity to clarify. As two professionals wrote the mail (their opinions) to the forum, I had to reply on behalf of the Puducherry SALIS. I respect their opinions and clarified our stand. Dear friends, You have totally mistaken the SALIS announcement of Felicitation. We are researching whether and how health and medical researchers are advised as to where to publish their research papers. We are interested in what services are offered, by whom and with what success. We have a special interest in the situation regarding predatory journals (defined in the survey) and how it is being dealt with. The survey will only take 10 -15 minutes of your time.
