FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Association for Library and Information Science Education Statement
About COVID-19 and the Library and Information Science Community
WESTFORD, MASSACHUSETTS (MARCH 16, 2020) - The Association for Library
and Information Science Education (ALISE) is committed to supporting
our members and the library and information science (LIS) community
during this time. Our top priority is the health and safety of
everyone in the LIS community.
Information professionals are at the forefront of this pandemic
assisting people to find reliable health information, helping people
to critically appraise the news, and offering innovative programs and
services to meet the needs of their respective communities worldwide.
Information professionals around the globe are also being called upon
for their expertise in online teaching and learning to support
colleagues at universities and other workplaces that are being asked
to rapidly transition to remote environments.
Additionally, ALISE members and other information professionals are
helping to shape policies in collaboration with public health
professionals and other stakeholders to chart a path in this landscape
of unknowns.
LIS programs have been at the forefront of online learning. Many LIS
faculty are now assisting their home institutions to ramp up online
offerings quickly in light of COVID-19.
ALISE is confident in and proud of the abilities of our members and
the LIS community to navigate these uncertain times with compassion,
knowledge, and leadership during these global health challenges.
The ALISE Board of Directors will continue to closely monitor
developments and provide updates via email and the ALISE website,
www.alise.org. ALISE also offers a directory of resources for LIS
professionals at https://www.alise.org/covid-19-resources.
