Date: Thu, 3 Jun 2004 00:57:42 -0700 (PDT) From: Kishor Satpathy <kishor_satpathy(a)yahoo.com> Hello, I also share my concern with Mr. Rajesh & Mr. Basudev. Just Imagine a person coming from North East or J&K taking all the pain to attend a interview in far places like South India or west India where the the result is already pre decided. I would like to share an recent experience of my friend who is working librarian in a Engg. College in North East. He went to attend an interview for the post Librarian in a National Level Sc & Tech. (Govt. of India) Institute where no TA/DA was paid to him. It took him 3 days to reach the interview place. The funniest part of the interview is that all the question that were asked to him were related to Achieves & Archival Management even when my friend clarified that he don't deal with the things & don't have the a fare idea about the subject related Archival Management . Still all the questions that were asked to him were related to Archival Management when that particular Instirute is not dealing with Archival Management . Later, he came to know that that the person from same Institute got the post. Then he came know why those Questions were asked. Is there any solution to that? Regards, Kishor Satpathy Librarian, NIT Silchar

Date: Wed, 2 Jun 2004 06:46:58 +0530 From: Vasumathi Sriganesh <vasu(a)qmedin.com> I agree with Mr. Rajesh Patil's inputs. It is important for anyone advertising to indicate a) Approximate salary or salary range b) Complete address etc of the institution c) A fairly good idea about the job profile and / or url of the Institution d) As clear an outline as possible about the candidate profile (eg - preferably a Science graduate etc) One more recommendation I have is that anyone posting any mail to this list, must include a complete "Signature file" - that tells people in the list that the person posting is a professional who is connected to the "Scope of discussions on this list" in some way. The mailing lists to which I subscribe - have this requirement - this is one step towards ensuring that quality discussions happen on the list Regards Vasumathi Sriganesh Director, QMed Services Pvt. It will be great if the additional information (as Rajesh pointed out) can be provided. Looks crazy BUT hard-reality: Sometimes some organization having some employee already working their (contractual/permanent basis) and the Management also convinced to take them up for higher role but to avoid audit issues again they do advt. and people all over apply for the same and even do attend the interview while the result of the interview is predefined before the advt. is published. Is there any way can it be managed? Date: 30 May 2004 06:58:41 -0000 From: Rajesh K Patil <rajeshbcd(a)rediffmail.com> Hi, It would be appreciated if Librarian's who advertise Vacancies on this forum provide some information about the activities of the Organization and/or the URL. Some rough idea about the Compensation package being offered also needs to be provided. By doing so they would be proving that their Organization will not be exploiting fellow library professionals. Further, Candidates will be spared the agony of applying, attending interviews and discovering that the wage offered is a pittance. Not to mention the anxiety associated with the whole process. We are aware that many Private Institutions these days are looking for the 'BEST CANDIDATE' who is willing to accept the 'LOWEST SALARY'. They should also ensure that the e-mail address provided for receiving CVs must be valid. The Yahoo address (padmavathit2 at yahoo.com) provided by our colleague in IACT has permanent errors. Let us help each other in maintaining the dignity of the Profession by dissuading exploiter's making hay through our Forum. Regards. Rajesh K Patil
