Dear LIS-Forum Members, Greetings. After nearly three decades of moderating and administering the LIS-Forum, the time has come for me to step down from this responsibility as I retire from the Indian Institute of Science on 31 July 2026 upon attaining superannuation. It has been a privilege to serve the library and information science community through this forum. Over the years, LIS-Forum has grown into a vibrant platform for sharing professional knowledge, announcements, discussions, and opportunities. I sincerely thank all the members for your active participation, valuable contributions, and support, which have made the forum a meaningful resource for our profession. I am pleased to inform you that, effective August 1, 2026, the administration and moderation of LIS-Forum will be assumed by Mr Pradeep Kavi, my colleague at J.R.D. Tata Memorial Library, Indian Institute of Science. I request all members to extend the same encouragement, support, and cooperation to Mr. Pradeep Kavi that you have generously extended to me over the years. Dear LIS-Forum Members, Greetings from the NCSI-NET Foundation. The NCSI-NET Foundation, established to promote networking, collaboration, and professional development among library and information science professionals, is pleased to invite you to the 2026 T.B. Rajashekar Memorial Lecture, to be delivered by Ana Enriquez, Head of Scholarly Communications and Copyright at the Penn State University Libraries. Lecture Details Date: Wednesday, 19 August 2026 Time: 4:00 PM (IST) Mode: Online via Microsoft Teams Title: Conflating Copyright and Ethics Abstract In resources about copyright law for lay audiences, it is common to conflate acting ethically with following copyright law. Rather than encouraging ethical behaviour, this trope shuts down the audience's ethical reasoning. Nor does this trope encourage learning about copyright law. Instead, it leads to several misunderstandings: it encourages people to think that all copyright wrongs are equivalent; it overlooks the variety of approaches to copyright, such as those of other countries or historical periods; and it conceals the flaws in copyright law. The solution is not to excise ethical reasoning from discussions of copyright law. The solution is to disentangle the two topics and pay adequate attention to both. About the Speaker Ana Enriquez is the Copyright Officer and Head of the Office of Scholarly Communications and Copyright at the Penn State University Libraries. As both a lawyer and a librarian, she has long advocated for improvements to the copyright system so that all may benefit from the advancement of knowledge. Earlier this year, Ana spent an academic term at the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, as a Fulbright-Nehru Scholar. Dear all, I have known Dr. Francis Jayakanth since 1988. I was on the IISc campus for 10 years, during which we met him almost every day, along with Dr. Rajasekar, Mr. Srinivasa Ravi, and others. I moved to Chennai in 1993. Over the years, I have posted many messages about SALIS programmes and activities in LIS-Forum. I also met Dr. Francis Jayakanth several times during the National Knowledge Resource Consortium meetings. We invited him on several occasions to conduct workshops in our SALIS conferences. He has been the moderator of LIS-Forum for more than 35 years. He approved messages posted to the forum with complete fairness and without any partiality. Being a moderator is not an easy task. He spent several hours almost every day reading and approving messages. He possesses extensive knowledge of open-source software such as DSpace, EPrints, etc.. He has been one of the pioneers in promoting the Open Access movement in India. He has conducted numerous workshops and delivered hundreds of lectures on open access, open-source software, and related tools. He is well known to library and information science professionals across India. Despite his accomplishments, he remains a simple, humble, and down-to-earth person. On behalf of SALIS and on my own behalf, I wish him a happy, healthy, peaceful, and active retired life. Dr. A.
