Change in Moderation of LIS-Forum
Dear LIS-Forum Members, Greetings. After nearly three decades of moderating and administering the LIS-Forum, the time has come for me to step down from this responsibility as I retire from the Indian Institute of Science on 31 July 2026 upon attaining superannuation. It has been a privilege to serve the library and information science community through this forum. Over the years, LIS-Forum has grown into a vibrant platform for sharing professional knowledge, announcements, discussions, and opportunities. I sincerely thank all the members for your active participation, valuable contributions, and support, which have made the forum a meaningful resource for our profession. I am pleased to inform you that, effective August 1, 2026, the administration and moderation of LIS-Forum will be assumed by Mr Pradeep Kavi, my colleague at J.R.D. Tata Memorial Library, Indian Institute of Science. I request all members to extend the same encouragement, support, and cooperation to Mr. Pradeep Kavi that you have generously extended to me over the years. With my sincere thanks and best wishes to all. Warm regards, Francis Francis Jayakanth Moderator, LIS-Forum J.R.D. Tata Memorial Library Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru
Dear Francis, Thank you for your dedicated service to the LIS community over the decades. As a student of the 1993–94 batch of NCSI Information Trainees under Dr. T.B. Rajashekar, both you and Ravi contributed immensely to our learning and growth. While we were just starting to pick up the basics, you were an absolute ocean of knowledge—yet what we always remembered most was your incredible humbleness. Later, when I joined INFLIBNET*,* you continued to be a guiding light, generously helping us with the subscription and management of Social Science-related databases. Your support throughout my career has been invaluable. I think your journey spanned from Unix command prompts to GNU-based operating systems, later to open-source software, and now to AI-based integration of services. Your adaptability alongside the evolution of information technology has been truly incredible. I often think that if Dr. T.B. Rajashekar were still with us, the LIS profession might have taken a very different path—and together with him, you would have contributed even more than you already have. Congratulations on reaching this milestone! We wish you a very happy, healthy, and active retired life. You will be missed on the forum as an administrator, but your legacy and impact on our profession will remain for years to come. Dear Francis, It has been an incredible journey, and your contributions have helped train Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals in the application of ICT to libraries and information services. I was fortunate to learn about you and meet, quite early in my career through friends who were undergoing training at NCSI. You have been a pillar of the LIS-Forum community, dedicating yourself to its moderation and continued growth despite numerous challenges, including server issues and the transition of the service from NCSI to the Library following NCSI's closure. Your commitment has ensured the survival and relevance of LIS-Forum even in today's era of social media. Although you are retiring from your official responsibilities, I sincerely hope you will continue to share your knowledge, wisdom, and guidance with the LIS professionals. Wishing you a very happy, healthy, and fulfilling retirement! I also wish Mr. Pradeep Kavi every success in carrying forward the legacy of LIS-Forum. Regards, Shamprasad M. Dear Francis, I doff my hat to your dedicated and exemplary service to the field of Library and Information Science. My heartfelt thanks, especially for keeping the LIS Forum alive and vibrant over all these years. As the famous advertisement says, *"Keep going!"*—and you certainly did. The LIS Forum has, in many ways, been a pioneer. I have fond memories of being one of its early members and used it extensively during the peak of my professional career, and continued to benefit from it regularly even afterwards. It has been a privilege knowing you and benefiting from your professional service. You always went that extra mile to help everyone—with unfailing professionalism, courtesy, and patience. While we will certainly miss you as the chief anchor of the LIS Forum, I am confident that retirement from this role will only give you more time to participate actively in the Forum and continue sharing your insights on professional issues. Thank you once again for your immense contribution. Wishing you good health, happiness, and a fulfilling new chapter. May you continue to inspire the LIS community for many years to come.
