Indian Statistical Institute Documentation Research and Training Centre 8th Mile, Mysore Road, Bangalore 560059 ADMISSION NOTICE (2017) Documentation Research & Training Centre, a unit of the Indian Statistical Institute, founded by Late Prof. S. R. Ranganathan is an internationally recognized centre for advanced training and research in Library and Information Science. The DRTC offers M.S. Programme in Library & Information Science with the primary objective of preparing the next generation information managers. This unique programme offers an ideal blend of courses spanning library science, information technology, knowledge management and quantitative studies. For those with an aptitude for higher studies and research the M.S. programme provides a solid foundation. M.S. in Library and Information Science ======================================= ELIGIBILITY: ------------- 3-year Bachelors degree in any discipline. Stipend Rs.5000/- per month (Offered at Bangalore). DURATION: ---------- The duration of the programme is 24 months (2 Years); the programme is offered only at the ISI Bangalore Centre. Junior Research Fellowship in Library and Information Science ================================================================= ELIGIBILITY: ------------- A consistent good academic record with high second class in M. S. (LIS) awarded by the Indian Statistical Institute or Associateship in Documentation and Information Science of the Indian Statistical Institute or NISCAIR/INSDOC or its equivalent degree(such as Master's degree in Library and Information Science from any University) with at least 55% marks in undergraduate(BA/B.Sc./B.Com. or its equivalent and also in BLISc if applicable). All eligible students will receive fellowship Rs.25,000/- per month (Offered at Bangalore). Selection Procedure ==================== Selection of candidates is based on merit as judged by their performance in written tests and interview conducted by the Institute. Past academic record may also be taken into consideration. Due consideration is given to SC/ST/OBC/Physically Challenged candidates for above M.S programme. Today i came across a commercial service provider of Koha at http://bestbookbuddies.com/faq who copied my original tutorial on " Data Conversion (Book and Journals) from Libsys to Excel/Marc <http://mishravk.com/2014/11/data-conversion-book-and-journals-from-libsys-t…>" from http://mishravk.com/2014/11/data-conversion-book-and-journals-from-libsys-t… . In the current instance they have copied the content and screen shots and converted into PDF with watermarking, most surprising is they have not yet mentioned the original source. Therefore all library fraternity is requested to check whether the service provider is selling there own product/brain or its others which is already available free of cost some where and provided by voluntary basis by library professionals itself. The objective of the conference is to revisit faceted analytical theory as a method for (re)constructing modern classifications and indexing languages and the role analytico-synthetic classifications have had in resource discovery and retrieval, from their introduction at the beginning of the 20th century to date. The conference will examine the challenges analytico-synthetic classifications represent for data modelling and interface design in the Web environment. Most importantly, it will explore potential fields of application for faceted classifications in information organization, visualization and presentation of large datasets, social networks and in the open linked data environment. High quality and innovative contributions are invited for the following topics: - The impact of faceted analytical theory and research on modern classification and indexing languages; - Data modelling, data management and data sharing of faceted and analytico-synthetic classifications; - Vocabulary mapping, semantic linking and natural language interfacing of analytico-synthetic systems; - Applications of faceted analytical theory on (re)constructing knowledge classifications and indexing languages; - End user interface design and user-friendly knowledge presentation for faceted systems; - Novel applications of faceted systems outside the bibliographic domain. CONTRIBUTIONS: Two kinds of contributions are invited: conference papers and posters. Authors should submit a paper proposal in the form of an extended abstract (1000-1200 words, including references, for papers; and 500-600 words for posters). The submission form is provided on the conference website. Proposals will be reviewed by the Programme Committee consisting of an international panel of experts. Each submission will undergo a blind review by at least three reviewers. The Conference proceedings will be published by Ergon Verlag and will be distributed at the conference.
