Dear All, At the outset & as a proud alumni of Department of Library and Information Science, University of Mysore (UoM), I would like to congratulate both Prof. Shalini Urs and Prof. Khaiser Nikam for being wonderful guides and also congratulate all the five proud PhD scholars Dr. Bhoj Raju; Dr. Jaykumara; Dr. Devendra; Dr. Vinod Kumar & Smt. Shanaz for their back breaking work . Both the professors who have served MyDLIS for more than 3 decades and have contributed to the LIS Intellectual out put. The PhD scholars are very fortunate to have got nicely trained under them, which is going to pay rich dividends in their career in time to come. I am saying this based on my personal experience. I think MyDLIS has created history and its an unusual scholarly event at MyDLIS in Nov' & Dec'13. Its a proud moment that out of five PhDs awarded, four students in a row are guided by Prof. Khaiser Nikam, Chairperson, Board of Studies, University of Mysore. As a PhD student of Prof. Nikam,I feel it is very hard to get her approval for the work we do, as she always insists in taking utmost care of not only the subject content but also proper English usage. Students working under her need not worry about English corrections and subject matter, which both she is a good at. She never compromises on the quality . If we look at the titles of theses and names of eminent external examiner like Prof.B S Maheshwarappa, it goes with out saying that the works are up to International Standards. Similar is the experience with Prof. Shalini Urs , who would always want us to do little more work, when ever she gave her observations at the time of Pre - theses submission colloquium. The work carried out by PhD students should be greatly useful to the society at large. It should not be confined to the departmental development and student growth. Tail Piece !!! Just now I reliably learnt that there will not be any need for library professionals to pass NET or do PhD as the UGC is going to treat them as administrators. Shanaz Kademzadeh worked on " Collection Development in Scientific and Research Institute Libraries in Iran: A Study" The presentations were scholarly and the new MLISc seminar hall was full with all the Faculty Members, Students, Research Scholars and invitees. Nearly 100 people attended the Internal Open Viva Voce. In general there was good interaction. The candidates answered questions satisfactorily. The issues raised in the course of interaction will go a long way in further improving the existing work of the scholars and act as tips to those who are going to complete their PhD work shortly. The external examiners were Prof. B S Maheshwarappa; Prof.B D Kumbar; Prof.NeelaDeshpande; Prof. Md. Shafi, Prof. D K Gupta. Prof. D Chandran and Prof.V T Kamble. All of them did a splendid job by critically evaluating the work and appreciating the strengths of the theses. Tailpiece !! For the healthy competitors it was an inspiring moment and for the envious it was the story of “Grapes are Sour" and for the Cynic it was time to" grouse and grumble" The Report is approved by the Board of Studies Chairman (Prof. Khaiser Nikam) and is prepared purely for academic purpose. Many times, though we want to congratulate the award recipients, we cannot do for want of their contact ids. While wishing a merry Christmas to all our professional colleagues, I request you all to include contact id of award recipient in your message while posting such mails. Knowing achievements of our people is definitely a happy moment and the contact details will facilitate us to greet the winners on their achievement. Also, 1. I request you all to include your signature while posting a request for article or information. This will help the sender to know the requester. 2. take some time and effort to type the details of articles while posting the request for copy of articles. I saw many such request mails with just links without article details. This is very important because, many receive only text messages and hyperlinks will not work. In such situations, people may not put effort to copy the link and paste it on their browsers. It will useful for people to read the text in request mail and to respond if they have it. The importance of collaboration, group work and communication in teaching and learning are widely recognised and the central role of the library as a repository of facts and information is changing. While it is still important to have this kind of resource, it has proven to be a diminishing draw in terms of library traffic. The notion of transforming libraries into social and cultural spaces is an expansive role for the future library not only serving as an information resource, but much more, with the exact mission and goals evolving and changing over time. A culture-based library is one that taps into the spirit of the community, assessing priorities and providing resources to support the things deemed most important. Libraries are in a unique position to experiment with creative spaces so the future role of the library can define itself. Since the role of the library 20 years from now is still a mystery, libraries need to put their heads together to scratch the surface of many more changes to come and determine what ideas are drawing attention and getting traction. The conference aims to address the main issues of concern within the framework of this transformation. *Program Structure* The conference program will include plenary sessions, invited and contributed papers, poster sessions, product presentations, panel discussions and an exhibition. A series of parallel sessions will be held offering delegates a wide range of in depth presentations by leading national and international experts. *Submission of Papers* *Unpublished research papers on different themes of the conference are solicited by January ** 10**, 2014**.* Submission of full papers (not more than 5 pages) with an abstract in approximately 200 words, keywords and references on A4 size paper with margin 1.5 cm on all sides in MS Word format in 10 points New Times Roman type single line spacing. Length of the paper should not exceed 4000 words.
