This unique Portal gives various kinds of information about Kannada and Karnataka including Education, Health, Agriculture, Entertainment, Kannada Films and songs, Kannada Literature, Fine Arts, Sports, Cooking, Law, etc. One of the main attraction is Children Section with stories and songs. Dear Professionals, The Friday Talk series began with warm invocation by Pushpa of MLISc around 3.30pm. Dr. Khaiser Nikam Chairperson of Library and Information Science gave a welcome to the guest and all, along with an introduction of Dr. Benjamin Sukumaran IOLS Career Empowerment and Development Kuvempunagar, Mysore. Chairperson gave a brief note about the Library Science has grown in rapid speed. Thirst of knowledge, language and love towards subject maker a person to communicate better. Lecture Report:- ' Communication is life' 'Life without communication is tragedy'. With this great thought the lecture began by Dr. Benjamin Sukumaran. Benjamin explained how important communication is in life. And to communicate better one should have awareness of cross cultural, if not it would be a barrier for communication. "Communication is a process of response to a stimuli on the flat form of culture. " For communication Physical i.e. the Sound body is important secondly the expression and Thirdly acceptation. If intake is good means outtake will be good. There is stimuli everywhere but one should response. Every one's will power is some where one should realize and the will power should realize and the will power should not wasted in judging, but by learning, by understanding etc. EQ matters everywhere. And with an example of, A rich boy and poor boy who were his student 3-4 years ago and their problem and success story of them to Librarians communication is first because they are people to solve or to give the solution and not creating problem by more communication. He must be good at English because Librarians First nature is Enquiry, Second nature is confirmation and Third is Service. Librarians will be there until education is and Books are Source of Information, Travelling is Confirmation. "Fishes in River never get Thirsty". Thus one should identify his strength and weakness in communication and there by to overcome from it reading, learning and better hard work. These should be examples of real wins for real individuals rather than marketing claims from repository software suppliers(!) as many repository successes are due to the library team's hard work and insight rather than the technical wizardry of the repository platform. Please can you email me a short (1 paragraph) success story (or stories!) about how your repository improved the experience of some researchers at your institution. They could be in the form of a user testimonial or described in your own words. I am not looking for tales of mass conversions and hysteria, just very practical stories of repository benefit as experienced by individuals. Any such information available in the form of document may be unavailable for future needs, if it is not collected and properly preserved. A viable solution to deal with collection and preservation of such information is digitization is now possible with the advent of high resolution scanning mechanisms and powerful computers with large storage capabilities. Libraries are an effective source of information to be shared by the people of all kinds, which are engaged in creating and maintaining digital libraries. The availability and use of digital libraries is gradually becoming the norm for the provision of literature and information in all the fields and research. Digitization has become the buzz world in libraries and information centers. The feature of digitization like enabling high level of data compression and easy retrieval are the factors that have made the libraries to convert their documents, books, journals, monographs, reports containing the text, pictures, audio, video in suitable digital formats. Digital Libraries are catering to information services interacting with online databases of journals and other resources. Digital Library plays an important role in creating, indexing and retrieving the various forms of digital resources. One of the main challenges in maintaining Digital library is the *Digital Preservation* aspect. Digital preservation is to manage the digital information and to preserve and maintain readability and accessibility across time. It is also being defined by set of *Metadata Standards,* which are structured encoded data that help in resources discovery and management of data. Discussions of metadata have largely centered on issue of resources description. There is however a growing awareness that metadata plays an important role in managing and preserving the digital resources. A study is made about the Digital preservation, its process, its workflow, *Issues and Challenges, *various ongoing projects (India and Abroad), concept of Metadata, its standards needed for data preservation.
