Right to Information Act -Jobs should be given to Information Professionals

Dear Sir/Madam, The much awaited Right to Information Act has come into force in India.And already we have seen and heard that there is a great demand for information which are vital to its functioning and also to contain corruption and to hold Governments and their instrumentalities accountable to the governed.But Govt Authorities have totally neglected the library and Information Professionals, most of the people who have appointed as public Information Officer have came from Journalism and mass communication." Public Information Officer" job is best suited for LIS professionals where the skills of storage , organise and dissemination of Information is highly required.Already there are instances that Public Information Officers have failed to provide right information to the right people at a right time.This is because of lack of skills to organise and storage of Information.This is the right time to Library Association and Universities to pressurize Govt. appoint library and Information professionals as " Public Information Officer" and this will definitely helps people to have information quickly whenever they need.This will not only helps govt to function smoothly and huge opportunities for LIS professionals as well. Dear Shri Jadhav, If one is looking for a Digital Library which is intrgrated with an eLearning engine then "LearnITy Digital Knowledge Library" is the prefered solution. The advantage is that it has got an ILS (Integrated Library System)in -built with the Digital Library.One can access both the electronic and print media from a single sign-on. New ways to call over Internet

*Two Internet telephone services debut Monday with unusual business approaches, hoping to stand out in an increasingly crowded market with intense price competition. * *Lycos, the Internet portal owned by Spanish telecommunications company Telefonica SA, is launching a Windows-based program that provides free calls to phones when the user signs up for promotional offers for credit cards or Netflix's DVD service. The software also shows banner ads. * *Users who don't sign up for offers will pay 1 cent a minute for domestic calls when they exhaust their initial 100 free minutes. * *Some European Voice-over-Internet companies, like Voipdiscount, have been providing free calls to countries including the United States. They don't however, provide free US phone numbers for incoming calls, which Lycos does. * *The Lycos Phone application also offers movie previews, PC-to-PC video calling and text messaging. * *The other new service seeks to radically simplify Internet calling, which works by breaking voice calls into data packets just like e-mail, sending them over the Internet and reassembling them into sound at the recipient's end. * *Roman Scharf co-founded Jajah, a company that released a for-pay PC-to-phone calling software last summer. Typically, the cost of a full-text database takes into account the value of the index itself as well as the full-text information included.
