Dear Library Professionals , It gives me immense pleasure to share with you our B-School Group's decade old library building efforts which have culminated in it being re-christened as "EMPI Knowledge & Learning Resource Centre" and identified as on of the best Management Libraries in Delhi and NCR. What started as a common library in 1995 has, as on date, built up a vast collection of information dockets comprising of 23,500 reference books, 150 Journals/ Magazines, 35 National Newspapers, and various CD-ROMs. Added to this are the networked resources of DELNET, thus enabling students and users to access to the networked resources of the DELNET as well as to the internationally acclaimed online database services. Connecting to this vast reservoir of Data and information resources flowing through our Fiber and Wi-Fi 24x7 DEMPI Data Network, every student laptop and the academia, make our campus one of the highest organized modern learning system in Delhi . Currently in order to shear our experience and further buildup on our effort, our knowledge and Learning Resource Centre (Central Library) has taken the initiative to organize and national convention on developing a " Roadmap for Modernization of Library and information Centers in the Emerging Knowledge Era " on 19th 20th March, 2007 at New Delhi under the guidance of the Indian Library Association of India President Dr. Muttayya Koganuramath , who is also the University Librarian, Central Library , Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has agreed to be the Patron of the EMPI Digital Library National Convention -2007. A Comprehensive brochure with the objection, theme, sub -themes and other details is enclosed for ready reference along with the registration form. Further to reach globally we have hosted a domain http://www.empidlnc.org with 2GB reserve space. This website will delicately disseminate all the conventional information to scholars and others. The prime objectives of launching the website are To share and contribute the best expertise knowledge about implementing, governing and regulating digital library processes and practices, and make a platform to announce various EMPI training and educational activities on future Knowledge & Learning Resource Centres. To provide students, faculty and other practitioners a knowledge base to download and share presentations (PPT), abstracts, and extended abstracts of the papers presented in various conventions and fulfilling the objective of serving with conviction. Your participation in the EMPI Digital Library National Convention-2007 and sharing of experience will, more than providing a platform for building of mutual synergies, help in development the preferred roadmap to guide the Indian information Centers (Libraries) to support the efforts of all our countrymen to make India a top class Knowledge society. This has been made possible through the recent launch by Google of its Custom Search Engine, which allows OpenDOAR to define a search service based on the Directory holdings. To provide background knowledge of the digital library and its related concepts. 2. To offer hands on experience on Linux . 3. To offer hands on experience in using Dspace Software. Areas to be covered in the Workshop: Open Source Movement, Digital Libraries: Current Scenario, Different Digital Library software and comparative study, Overview of Linux, Overview and Installation of DSpace, DSpace Users: Anonymous, Members & Authors, Lucene Search Engine, DSpace Administration, Dublin Core and OAI-PMH, Persistent Handles, DSpace Customization, Unicode and Indian Languages Laboratory Facilities The workshop lectures will be followed by demonstration and hands-on practices as far as practicable. An attractive Lab facilities (with one computer for two participants) will be made available for practice to the participants. Resource persons Prof A R D Prasad and Dr Devika P Madalli, Documentation Research and Training Centre (ISI), and also from other Institutions. Target Participants: Library and Information Science professionals with working knowledge of Information Technology. To provide background knowledge of the digital library and its related concepts. 2. To offer hands on experience on Linux . 3. To offer hands on experience in using Dspace Software. Areas to be covered in the Workshop: Open Source Movement, Digital Libraries: Current Scenario, Different Digital Library software and comparative study, Overview of Linux, Overview and Installation of DSpace, DSpace Users: Anonymous, Members & Authors, Lucene Search Engine, DSpace Administration, Dublin Core and OAI-PMH, Persistent Handles, DSpace Customization, Unicode and Indian Languages Laboratory Facilities The workshop lectures will be followed by demonstration and hands-on practices as far as practicable. Open source library softwares are not only useful for managing electronic collections effectively, but also helps in providing access to end users in an user friendly manner. About the Workshop The basic purpose of the workshop is as follows: To provide hands on experience on converting print to digital formats Installation and configuration of various Digital Library Softwares like Greenstone and D-Space Collection building Organizing digital documents by adopting various international standards Searching and browsing of digital collection About CSMCRI Library and Information System The CSMCRI Library is considered to be a premier one in this region having a rich collection of books, periodicals, reference materials etc. in the areas of R&D being carried out in the institute. Besides catering to the information needs of R&D staff of the institute, the library also extends facilities to the visiting research scholars, university faculties, R&D staff of the industries, government officials and others. The total collection of the library is 50, 000 consisting of books, back volumes, patents, standards, micro-cards etc. Being a member of CSIR Consortium, it has access to more than 4500 scholarly e-Journals. The Library provides important library services like ILL, DDS and Literature Search Services.
