---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Sun, 29 Dec 2013 14:25:57 +0530 From: Koteswara Rao Mamidi <mk-rao(a)hotmail.com> Dear all, Yes, the posting certainly raises eyebrows among LIS fraternity while reading the dirty tailpiece. Is it required in the first place? There is nothing new of LIS departments awarding PhDs and we all know the quality and standard of today's PhDs. Perhaps the user is trying to reaffirm the earlier studies showing that the state of Karnataka leads in LIS PhDs?. A recent posting about a seminar by KALA "Save Libraries and Save Librarianship" has also evoked mixed response from users which makes us to think "what is happening to our LIS profession"? Dr. M. On the one hand it definitely it is a matter that DLIS, University of Mysore witnessed an intellectual event of such magnitude of five research scholars being awarded the Ph.D. degrees. As a former research scholar it is indeed a matter of great pride seeing the scholarly achievements of DLIS, University of Mysore. On the other hand, it saddens me a lot to read the "Tailpiece" of the message which is written in absolute bad taste. It appears to an outsider like one pitching against the other in order to derive some sadistic pleasure. Such "Tailpiece" statements can jeopardize the reputation of DLIS.
