"Since repositories are a key tool in making scholarly knowledge open access, determining their presence and impact on the Web is essential, particularly in Google (search engine par excellence) and Google Scholar (a tool increasingly used by researchers to search for academic information). The few studies conducted so far have been limited to very specific geographic areas (USA), which makes it necessary to find out what is happening in other regions that are not part of mainstream academia, and where repositories play a decisive role in the visibility of scholarly production. The main objective of this study is to ascertain the presence and visibility of Latin American repositories in Google and Google Scholar through the application of page count and visibility indicators. On the occasion of the inauguration of the golden jubilee of MyDLIS (Mysore University Department of Library and Information Science), MILAN (Mysore University Information and Library Science Alumni Association) was formed to be a platform for the alumni of this illustrious Department to strengthen their ties for the cause of LIS profession and professionalism. MILAN took birth during the Alumni Meet held as part of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the Department of Studies in Library and Information Science of the University of Mysore, Mysore held recently. The Grand Finale of the Golden Jubilee of MyDLIS will be organized in collaboration with MILAN during June 19-20,2015 (Friday and Saturday.) BITS PILANI PARTNERS WITH EDX TO LAUNCH OPEN ONLINE COURSES Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences (BITS), Pilani has recently tied-up with edX - an online and classroom learning platform provider. The institute will join edX as a contributing member and will leverage the edX' platform to enhance learning experience of its on-campus and off-campus students. The institute will also offer MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) to reach out to students outside BITS. "We are in midst of implementing several projects aimed at becoming a leading technical university in Asia," said Bijendra Nath Jain, Vice-Chancellor of BITS Pilani in a press statement. "The partnership will enable BITS Pilani to enrich the learning experience of students enrolled in our on-campus and off-campus programmes, as well as provide a platform to reach out to the world at large." BITS Pilani will offer 60 courses over three years to students across its four campuses and its off-campus programmes through edX while also offering several courses every year as MOOCs to engage with students outside the BITS system, added Shan Sundar Balasubramaniam, Dean for Academic & Resource Planning of BITS Pilani, according to the statement.
