Dear Colleagues, Sri. Vimal Kumar V., Library Professional, Mahatma Gandhi University,Kerala has won the award for outstanding post with social commitment in Changanacherry Junction Facebook Community for the year 2014 regarding food safety norms violation in hotels in Changanacherry. He has published list of such hotels in Changanacherry Junction Facebook community. No other mainstream media had the courage to publish the list of hotels and restaurants violated food safety measures. He has obtained the information about such hotels using Right to Information Act. The award handed over to Sri. Vimal Kumar in a function organised at public library hall in his village on 30 November 2014. Changanacherry Junction is the big (25,188 members) and active Facebook community of Changanacherry Taluk residents. Dear Friends, I am shocked to learn about the 'sad demise' of our fellow LIS Professional, Shri Satish Deshpande. I have known Late Shri Deshpande for over last two decades - first, I, as the member of British Library, Ahmedabad (where he had put in his lifetime of excellent service) and later on, as my colleague at the British Council, India. Shri Deshpande was one of the most dynamic, hardworking, dedicated and resourceful LIS colleagues, that I have had an opportunity to interact, collaborate and work with. He was an 'all-rounder LIS Professional', with extensive practical knowledge in all aspects of Modern Library and Information Services area, covering, Collection Development, Customer Services and Marketing, Library Automation and above all, he was a very good team leader and people oriented person. Shri Deshpande's untimely death is a great loss to our profession. I am sure, apart from his friends like us, the scholarly and professional community of Ahmedabad is going to miss Shri Deshpande, whom he had served for over last three decades. I express my sincere condolences to his Family, Friends, Relatives and Colleagues. May his soul rest in peace. Dr. R. Dear All Professional Colleagues Heartiestcongratulations to Prof. Amitabha Chatterjee, Former Professor, Department ofLibrary and Information Science, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, on beingconferred upon IATLIS-Prof. Jagindar Singh Ramdev Lifetime Achievement Award-2013 by IATLIS on 27 November 2013 at the inaugural function of XXX IATLISNational Conference, 2014 held at Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamshala.Prof. Amitabha Chatterjee, is a well known name in the sphereof LIS education in the country. He has taught the subject for over 40 years atbachelor’s degree level and over 35 years at master’s degree level in differentuniversities of West Bengal. He retired as Professor and Head of the Departmentof Library & Information Science, Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He servedas one of the member of the Curriculum Development Committee (CDC) in LIS, setup by the University Grant Commission, the report of which was published in2001. He served as a member of the Research Council of erstwhile INSDOC (nowNISCAIR), New Delhi, and a member of the Board of Studies and Board of Researchin LIS in several Universities. He has been honoured with IATLIS-Motiwale Best LISTeacher Award in 2001 by Indian Association of Teachers in Library & InformationScience. He has also been nominated by Indian Association of Special Libraries& Information Centres (IASLIC) for Prof. Prabir Roychoudhury and Smt. AmitaRoychoudhury Best LIS Teacher Award, 2011. Prof. Chatterjee has served as amember of the Editorial Board of ILA Bulletin (1988-89), and Annals of Libraryand information Studies (1998-2004, 2007-) and edited 6 journals, includingIndian Library Science Abstracts and Librarian and 27 conference volumes. Sad demise of Satish Deshpande

It is with a very heavy heart that I inform the library community of the sad and sudden demise of Satish Deshpande who was presently associated with Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. He was previously the librarian of The British Library Ahmedabad, which he served for about 29 years. One the finest professionals we had in India is no more. I am sad that such a wonderful library professional who touched thousands of lives in this country through his meticulous and professional service has left us. I remember my first meeting him in 1992 and while working with him I was always amazed at his energy and service oriented attitude till his passing away. He was a doyen in the Ahmedabad library fraternity and his departure is a great loss to librarianship in general. I pray to god to give his family the strength to bear this loss and may his soul rest in peace. Regards H.
