Dear Professionals, Applications are invited for purely temporary post of Project Linked Personnel (1) for a major project on “Planning for the Research Data Management Repositories with Special Reference to Social Science” undertaken by Documentation Research and Training Centre under the Project Principal Investigator Dr. M Krishnamurthy, for a period of three years from 2024-2027 funded by the Indian Statistical Institute. (Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation) Qualification and Experience: Candidate must have first Class Master's degree in Computer Science/ BE, BTech in Information Technology, and Master in Library and Information Science (M.L.I.Sc) or equivalent degree from a recognized university with consistent good academic record. A good knowledge in the field of Research Data, Computation, analysis, algorithms, and Portal web applications for Library and Information is required. Expertise in writing articles and abstracts will be an added advantage. Good Written and oral communication skills. He/she will be required to help collect and organize information sources relevant to the project to develop and manage a research data portal technique that will become a digital repository catering to the needs of scholars, researchers, and advanced students. Duration of Appointment: One year (extendable up to 3 years based on performance) Pay: 31,000.00 Per month (Consolidated) Age: Should not exceed 35 years as on June 2024, with usual relaxation for SC/ST/ and Physically challenged candidates. Librarians must interact with researchers much more than they

Fellow Academic and research Librarians, All of us know our work is not confined to what we do with inanimate objects - books, reports, online content, managing our budgets to get the maximum benefit to our clients/users, and so on. The most important part of any, especially an academic/research, library is not these physical things and not even efficient management of the scarce resources allotted to the library. It is people as Washington State University's business librarian Gabriella Reznowski would tell you. See how in partnership with Assistant professor Amrita Lahiri, Ms Reznowski helped Lahiri's entrepreneurial management class complete their term project in which they pick a research question focused on entrepreneurship and conduct a survey of the literature relevant to their question. They interview entrepreneurs and use databases such as Pitchbook and Statista to find answers.Dr Lahiri considers the university's libraries to be a critical ally in pursuing this objective. The question for us in India is how often do we see such active collaboration between faculty and librarians even in the best of our higher educational institutions? Saying that in the Internet era researchers have direct access to the info they need through their laptops is not good enough. How many of us know the current questions our professors and students are investigating? How often do we meet them and discuss their information needs? I have had the privilege of knowing a few librarians who excelled in serving their academic clients beyond their expectations. I will only name two of them: Mr V Sarangan, who came from Salem in Tamil Nadu with a Third class BA and a basic diploma/degree in library science to join as a technical assistant in the CSIR headquarter's library in New Delhi. His lowly status notwithstanding he did a marvellous jof. He knew which officer, be it the Director General or Head of Planning or Manpower division, would benefit by reading which latest arrivals from among the books, reports, journal articles, etc. Then there was Ratnakar, now retired, of the Raman Research Institute, who knew the research interests of virtually every researcher in the campus from the Director down to the freshly recruited research student. I have benefited much from both of them although I was not working in the same institution. I would like to hear such positive examples from the current crop of librarians. Suggestions for improving the scholarly communication ecosystem in India

Friends, I have some suggestions for Indian scientists and those involved in supporting research. 1. All publishing authors (from India) may be persuaded to register with ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) and obtain a unique author identity. Mine is below the signature line. [To obtain a unique ORCID identity, one may follow these steps: 1. *Register for an ORCID ID*: - Visit the ORCID website[1] and click on "Register now." - Fill in your name, email address, and create a password. - If you already have an ORCID ID, select the appropriate option; otherwise, continue with the registration process[4]. 2. *Verify Your Information*: - Review the list of researchers with similar names and select the correct profile or continue with registration if you don't have an ORCID ID yet[4]. 3. *Set Up Your Profile*: - Create a password and adjust the visibility settings for your profile to ensure it is visible to everyone, as ORCID is designed to help researchers share their information with others[4]. 4. *Agree to Terms and Register*: - Check the terms of use boxes, complete the registration process, and confirm that you are not a robot[4]. 5. *Utilize Your ORCID ID*: - Once registered, your ORCID ID will serve as a unique and persistent identifier throughout your career, even if your name changes or you move to a different organization[4]. 6. *Link Your Publications and Works*: - Add your publications, funding information, and other works to your ORCID profile to showcase your research output and achievements[4]. By following these steps, you can easily obtain a unique ORCID identity that distinguishes you as a researcher and helps in accurately attributing your scholarly work[4][5]. [To obtain a unique institutional identity using the Research Organization Registry (ROR), please follow these steps: 1. *Check if your institution already has a ROR ID* - Search for your institution on the ROR website[3] to see if it already has a unique ROR ID assigned. - If your institution is listed, you can use the provided ROR ID. 2. *Request a new ROR ID if needed* - If your institution is not listed, you can request a new ROR ID by submitting a form on the ROR website[3]. - Provide details about your institution, such as its official name, website, and address. **** 3. *Validate and update your institution's ROR profile* - Once your institution has a ROR ID, review the associated profile information for accuracy. - If any details need to be updated, such as name variants or address information, you can request changes by contacting the ROR team[3]. **** 4. *Open Researcher and Contributor ID* - Encourage researchers affiliated with your institution to include the ROR ID in their publications and grant applications. - Provide guidance to researchers on how to properly format and include the ROR ID. **** 5. *Monitor and maintain your institution's ROR profile* - Regularly review your institution's ROR profile to ensure that it remains accurate and up-to-date. - If any changes occur, such as mergers, name changes, or new campuses, update the ROR profile accordingly[3]. By obtaining a unique ROR ID and maintaining an accurate institutional profile, your institution can ensure consistent and reliable identification in research information systems and databases[3]. Authors may be persuaded to adopt preprint as the first choice of communication of all new results. There are many of them (and one can obtain a list from COAR), the well-known ones being arXiv, bioRxiv, chemRxiv, SocArXiv, etc. 5. Authors may be persuaded NOT to publish in commercial journals. If they still want to do that they should not pay APC. Certainly NO FUNDING AGENCY SHOULD UNDERWRITE APC. Transferring taxpayers; money to publishers is immoral and unethical. Friends, Often scientists and librarians go by big names. But not all papers in big name journals are top class and not all journals published by big name publishers are decent journals.
