At present libraries are providing online access to their collections to the patrons. To make these resources available efficiently, libraries are using Link resolvers. Link resolvers are the software that enable the library patrons to navigate seamlessly between various library resources such as full-text databases, printed documents, Document Delivery Service forms, online catalog search results and sometimes Inter Library Loan forms through a single-window environment. GODOT from Simon Fraser University and Ohio links link resolver are two open-source link resolvers. ExLibris SFX link resolver, LinkSource from EBSCO and WebBridge are some commercial link resolver products.This seminar will discuss the need and benefits of using a link resolver, the process, implementation challenges, the software tools SFX and WebBridge, and the related technologies. Since its inception in 1969, IATLIS has been active in taking up several issues of LIS Education in India especially relating to the development of curriculum, teaching methods, infrastructure, teacher training, etc. It actively works for the promotion of the professional interests of LIS teachers. For more details about the association, kindly go to www.iatlis.org ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY Pondicherry University, a Central University was established in 1985 by an Act of Parliament with the objective to disseminate and advance knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities in such branches of study as it may deem fit and more specifically, to make special provisions for studies in French and for integrated courses in Science and Humanities and to promote inter-disciplinary studies and research in the University. The University has also PG Centres at Karaikal and Port Blair. Karaikal Centre currently offers three PG programmes. The MHRD - India Rankings 2017 ranked the Pondicherry University in 37th place among University Category and 59th place in the Overall Category out of 724 Universities / Institutions by a ranking process through National Institutional Ranking Framework. The University has 15 Schools, 39 Departments, 11 Centres and One Chair offering over 141 PG, P.G.Diploma/Certificate & Research programmes and receiving about 50,000 applications for these programmes from all over India. And also has special facility for visually challenged (Braille Lab) in the library to access the resources through specialized software. About the Department The Department of Library and Information Science was started during the academic year 2007-08. The Department offers a two years integrated Master’s Degree (M.Lib.I.Sc.), a Ph.D. Degree Programme in Library and Information Science and an Add-on Course – Postgraduate Diploma in Library Automation and Networking (PGDLAN) offered in the evenings. M.Lib.I.Sc. is a professional degree and there is a great demand for the library professionals in the job market. M.Lib.I.Sc. postgraduates get placed as Librarians, Information Scientists, Knowledge Managers, Technical Editors, Consultants, etc. Those who qualify UGC- NET or SET examination can enter academics as Assistant Professor or Assistant Librarian of a University or Librarian of a College. Inclusion of people with disabilities, born or acquired later, constitutes a very different challenge as it cannot be handled just by policies and political will. It requires major technology intervention. In this talk we present the work of ASSISTECH, IIT Delhi in developing solutions aimed at independent mobility and education of visually impaired in India and other low income countries. ASSISTECH has had some success in disseminating the technology solutions that have been developed in the laboratory. First, we would focus on uniqueness of our context and how these solutions innovatively address our needs including affordability. Further, we also talk about the challenges in translational research and dissemination that is critical for taking any proof-of-concept beyond the walls of a laboratory. *About the speaker:* M. Balakrishnan is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at IIT Delhi. He obtained his B.E.(Hons.) in Electronics & Electrical Engg. from BITS Pilani in 1977 and Ph.D. from EE Dept. IIT Delhi in 1985. He worked as a Scientist in CARE, IIT Delhi from 1977 to 1985 where he was involved in designing and implementing real-time DSP systems. For the last 30 years, he is involved in teaching and research in the areas of digital systems design, electronic design automation and embedded systems. He has supervised 12 Ph.D. students, 3 MSR students, 173 M.Tech/B.Tech projects and published nearly 110 conference and journal papers. Further, he has held visiting positions in universities in Canada, USA and Germany. At IIT Delhi, he has been the Philips Chair Professor, Head of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Dean of Post Graduate Studies & Research, Deputy Director (Faculty) and Deputy Director (Strategy & Planning). At IIT Delhi, he has initiated a number of programmes/activities to promote research, start-ups as well as outreach to the community. ASSISTECH, a laboratory and research group founded by him along with Prof. P.V.M. Rao (Mech Engg), is involved in developing a number of assistive devices targeted towards mobility and education of the visually impaired. He has been a recipient of ACM Eugene Lawler Award for 2018 and three National awards for his work in the disability space.
