Database of Indian LIS Professionals

Good, So we there is a concensus that a Single Master Database may be build up for Indian LIS professionals. Now let us proceed further and answer the following questions: 1. What is the AIM? and to whom it would benefit? 2. What information would it contain, and what would be the data elements of the database? 3. Are INFLIBNET and INFOLIBRARIAN ready to give their data? If yes, then are their databases compatible? Do they have common structure? 3a. I Remember ILA had similar effort, what is the present status, can some one check out? Can we integrate that data also? 4. How its utility would be better then a discuss group like LIS-FORUM? 5. What are the factors of success/failure of exisitng similiar efforts. What lessions / best practices we can learn from the exiting initiative. How would this knowledge would help us in our proposed initiative? 6. Who will own the data? I think, we would be able to develop and achieve our proposed database of LIS Professionals in much better and scientific manner after answering the above questions. Let me now forget to thank Prof Shalini's offer to host the database. ----NOTE-----:) I AM FOR SUCH A DATABASE AND NOT AGAINST IT. I AM WILLING TO OFFER MY IDEAS(?) Robots of web search engines can not collect information about the content of documents from the web pages (HTML pages), as a HTML tags provide no semantic clues about the content of the document. This leads to noise in indexing. One solution is providing meaning to web content by adding metadata. Semantic web is based on Resource Description Frame work (RDF) using eXtensible Markup Language (XML) for syntax and Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) as a naming convention.. DRTC announces a 3 day workshop focusing on the various standards and Request For Comments (RFC) to enable library and information professionals in creating semantic web. The workshop will emphasize on comprehensive theory and practice. Themes: * Semantic Web: Overview * Metadata * Automatic Extraction of Metadata Using a Context Thesaurus * Mobile Access to the Semantic Web * Metadata for Learning Objects on the Web * Retrieval in Indian Languages * RDF * XML * Web Ontology and Taxonomy * OWL (Web Ontology Language) * Naming Conventions URI, URN, etc Resource Persons: Experts from Dalhousie University, Canada and University of Hyderabad, DRTC faculty. Dear Friends, Few days back there was lot of debate on this forum to have a database of Indian Librarians [Information Professionals]. Then there was one solution, which basically was very near to an On-Line Bulletin Board/Forum. Just to check out what all it takes to start an On-Line Bulletin / Forum. I created an Bulletin Board/Forum at http://indlibra.myforum.net . It has been named as IndLIBRA. It is for discussion among Indian Librarians and Inforamtion Scientists. Can you guess how much time it might have taken!!!? It was done with in 10 Minutes!!!. No prizes for guessing it right.
