Dear information scientist, Now a days, we are discussing on Design and development of Institutional Repositories but we did not discuss one of major issue i.e Intellectual Property Right. I have some small queries but important which are: 1. If any article/research paper already has published somewhere, Can we put/add the same article in the institutional repositories without permission from the concern publisher when author/scholar/generator of article has been working in the same organization. 2. Who should have intellectual property Right? Author or Publisher. 3. What kind of precaution or point we must keep in mind before putting intellectual property in Institutional Repositories. 4. Any special legal clause, should be followed? 5. Any standard agreement between author/scholar institution and Publishers. I am requesting to all information professional who have started this initiative and other who have specialization in IPR also, Kindly give their valuable opinion and suggestion on the issue. Dr.Kohl is an expert in the area of Library and Information Consortia and has architected the OHIOLINK, which is one of the biggest and successful consortium. MLA and JISC in the UK join DCMI Affiliate Program DUBLIN, Ohio, USA, August 26, 2004The DCMI Directorate has announced that the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) and Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) of the further and higher education funding bodies in the UK have signed an Affiliate Agreement with the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI) enabling the UK to become formally involved in the continued development of the Dublin Core metadata standards. MLA and JISC are the UK's official representatives, presenting the views of all UK public sector institutions at an international level. The Dublin Core was developed for use on the Web and in other information networks across a wide variety of subject areas, languages and economic sectors. Dublin Core has been adopted by several national governments, of which the United Kingdom is the largest. DC has been translated into 25 languages, and has participants from more than 50 countries. DCMI is the maintenance agency for the Dublin Core standard (ISO 15836) and is responsible for its further development, maintenance, standardization and promotion. OCLC serves as the Host for DCMI, and manages its Web site. The signing of the UK Affiliate marks an important step forward for DCMI, and reminds us, as well, that the UK has been a leading contributor to global metadata since 1995. The Hamdard Library Organises an inaugral function of its automated library system on september 18, 2004 at 4.00 p.m. at the Hamdard Convention Centre Hall No. 1, inaugrated by Mr. Mohd. Ali Ashraf Fatmi, Honble Union State Minister, HRD. Late Hakim Abdul Hameed Saheb, a renowned physician and humanist, eastablished Jamia Hamdard in 1989. The central bibliographic Resource Centre, Hakim Mohd. Said Central Library boast of more than 1.5 lakh bibliographic records including a marvellous collection of manuscripts in veriety of languges and subjects. To make the collection of library available to the academic community in accordance with the demand of modern automated environment, the university library has undertaken a project of computerising its various activities. To this end we are using the LIBSYS library application software. It is Worth mentioning with a degree of pride that the Jamia Hamdard Library has the unique distinction of achieving a satisfactory level of computerization of all its activities from the book acquisition to its cataloguing, classification and issue to return. It will not be out of place to appreciate our quickest implementation of the intricate processes of automation.
