Thanks to Julian, Judy and their jury team for making it happen! Our six winners this year are: 1. Shampa Paul, India. "A case study of e-governance initiatives in India." 2. Soumitra Sharma, India. "Exploring best practices in public-private partnerships (ppp) in e-government through select Asian case-studies." 3. Rama Devi, India. "Towards promotion and dissemination of IK. A case of NIRD." 4. M.Masoom Raza Amar Nath, India. "Use of IT in University Libraries of Punjab, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh : A Comparative study." 5. Elsa Barber, Silvia Pisano, Sandra Romagnoli, Verónica Parsiale and Gabriela De Pedro y Carolina Gregui, Argentina. "User Interface of Web Opacs in Mercosur Member and Associate Countries." 6. Medha Joshi, India. "Digital resources for information accessibility at the point of care: an overview of Library Information System at Tata Memorial Hospital." The theme of this year?s contest was "Joining Research and Practice: Social Computing and Information Science." The principal authors of each of the six winning papers will be awarded a two-year individual membership to ASIST. In addition, the leading two winners, Shampa Paul and Soumitra Sharma will be awarded a minimum of $1,000 each to attend the October 18-25, 2007 ASIST Annual Meeting, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. These winning papers and other submitted papers for the competition will be considered for publication by Elsevier's International Information and Library Review, which is edited by Toni Carbo. Thanks to the generous donations from participants of the October 6 2006 Kenya Embassy Fundraiser, Elsevier, and many of our previous organization and individual donors. Your efforts have enabled us to continue with this International Contest. Further fundraising effort is underway and we welcome donations as well as entries to the ongoing raffle to support the contest. Updates will be provided periodically as we get closer to the conference. Congratulations to the winners! The Contest Committee worked really hard in selecting the winning papers. About the ELF. . . the Engineering Libraries forum, consists of librarians and information professionals concerned with the support of engineering education. We are involved in the provision of library services and the development of innovative approaches to networking information services. By emphasizing lot on IT, we are slowly moving from the bottom-line of the library and information science. We are in a verge to forgotten our great S R Ranganthan, but noteworthy thing is IT people have embraced Ranganthan for organizing information on the web. His idea of faceted classification is the buzzword among interface designers and new subject �Information Architecture� is evolving strongly based on faceted analysis. Instead of concentrating lot on IT, if we shift our focus bit on towards training library graduates towards classification, thesauri, controlled vocabularies, metadata and search systems and how it has been used in technological environment, this will help us to understand both library and information science and information technology. The field of librarianship has been largely devoted to the task of organizing and providing access to information. So why all the fuss now? Efforts of MyDLIS, University of Mysore

Respected LIS Professionals, As an alumnus of MyDLIS, University of Mysore, Mysore, I thought of sharing my own case in this regard. Having passed out in 2005, I am currently working in a Pharmaceutical Company in Bangalore as a Knowledge Management - Executive and I am shortly migrating to Deloitte Consulting Hyderabad as a Record Management (Analyst) US Operations. Before that I was at i2 Technologies. I am proud to be a student of MyDLIS and state that training and the amount of knowledge I gathered during my MLISc (2003 - 2005), has helped me in finding job opportunities in bigger IT industries like Deloitte and i2 Technologies. During my course I have learnt many aspects of Library and Information Science as far as theory is concerned and practical aspects of DDC, UDC as well as the IT related stuffs like Greenstone, Dspace, LIBSYS, Dublin Core, MARC 21 etc from my beloved faculty members. I would also like to add, more than the knowledge and IT skills per se, it is more important to inculcate the right mindset and attitude. As regards market expectations- from my experience, I would like to add that the market is somewhat nebulous and evolving and therefore LIS professionals need to have a broad range of skills, learning attitude and adaptability.
