by Badan Barman 17 Aug '08

17 Aug '08

Dear LIS Professional, Peoples in general are not aware about Library and Information Science; due to its special programme of its own. It has 1 one year BLISc degree programme in comparison to other subjects' 3 years degree programme, it has 1 year MLISc programme in comparison to others subjects 2 years Master Degree Programme. I am being appointed as a Academic Consultant in School of Library and Information Science at Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University, Guwahati (Assam) trying hard to promote the subject of Library and Information Science in the rank of other subjects by equating the programmes. But to justify my points in front of the university authority, I am in need of a strong support from the academicians of Library and Information Science that are distributed all over India. As such I have post this massage. Before producing my own justification, I want to hear from all of you, regarding pitfall and advantages of introducing the following programme. 1. The three Years BLISc programme will be an integrated modular programme in semester system. It will comprise of 24 papers including practical work. The learners, who will successfully complete the first two semesters (1 year), will be awarded Certificate in Library and Information Science (CLIS). The learners, who will complete the first three semesters (1 and half year), will be awarded the Diploma in Library and Information Science and after successfully completion of four semesters (two years), the learner will be awarded the Advanced Diploma in Library and Information Science. Finally, the learners who will successfully complete all the six semesters (three years) will be awarded Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLISc) degree. 2. The Master of Library and Information Science (MLISc) will be a two years programme consisting of four semesters, just like other subject. I am sure being a LIS professional; you have many things to say about this. Please post your comments over LIS Links: http://lislinks.ning.com/. Posting in the online groups is avoided, as in such cases there is a huge scope to distribute your valuable comments widely, to arrive at any conclusion. Thanking You and Waiting for Your Valuable Comments. -- Yours faithfully (Sri Badan Barman) Academic Consultant, Library & Information Science, Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University, Housefed Complex, Last Gate, Dispur, Guwahati-781006, Assam, Phone: 0361-2234964 / 2235971, Fax: 0361- 2235398. by Puna Das 17 Aug '08

17 Aug '08

Dear Sir/Madam, Subject: "India R & D 2008: Nanotechnology – The Science of the Future" FICCI, in partnership with Ministry of Science and Technology organizes India R & D Conferences, on an annual basis. The previous India R&D Conferences held on the themes "India as World's Knowledge Hub of the Future" (2005), "Commercialization of Innovation: Mind to Market" (2006) and "Innovation - Advantage India" (2007) met with incredible success in terms of sensitizing the industry, R&D institutes and investors on various issues influencing the growth of India's Science and Technology. Carrying forward its earnest efforts, FICCI is now holding a series of India R&D Conferences with sectoral focus to allow formulation of sector-specific action plans and recommendations for industry, investors and policy makers. The first Conference in the Series "India R & D 2008: Nanotechnology – The Science of the Future" has been scheduled on 5th September 2008 at FICCI, New Delhi. Through this Conference, FICCI aims to generate an environment of informed enthusiasm amongst various stakeholders, especially industry players. Nanotechnology has the potential to address various concerns of humanity by providing comprehensive solutions for sustainable development (such as drug delivery, water remediation, agricultural productivity, etc.). India acknowledged this importance by setting up Nano Science and Technology Mission and Vision Group to develop national nanotechnology policy which intends to address regulatory, safety, infrastructure & human resource development issues. Indian nanotechnology industry is in its infancy and projected to grow many folds. Thus, considerable fillip is required to increase commercialisation efforts and enthusiasm of the industry. We are happy to invite you to participate in this Conference. The Registration Form can be downloaded at: http://www.indiarnd.com/nano-register.pdf and Tentative Programme at: http://www.indiarnd.com/nano-prog.pdf. Cost of the registration fees
by Narenthiran 14 Aug '08

14 Aug '08

Dear professionals, I would like to bring one small note to discuss on various workshops and conference proceedings registration fees. Now a days I am noticing there is a steep hike in registration fees and accomadation. Is it neccessary? Trainings/workshops/conference proceedings are suppose to help the participants to use modern/scientific tehniques in minimum cost. I personally request organisers of the Trainings/workshops/conference proceedings reduce the fees by avoiding luxury bags and conducting courses in costly private/hotels hall. Thanks Narenthiran.
