Fwd: All you need to know about Blogs, Wikis and RSS
by K.R. Mulla 19 Sep '08

19 Sep '08

Dear LIS Professionals, *All you need to know about Blogs, Wikis and RSS* Maybe you've heard the buzz about *blogs, wikis and RSS*, but wonder how they can be used in your library. Perhaps you're uncertain if you have the technology or time to integrate these communication tools into your organization. You can learn all that you need to know about blogging, wikis and RSS feeds by enrolling now in one of our popular *Keep Up! workshops*. We'll take a look at examples of good library blogs and wikis, and maybe even a few bad examples. We'll discuss what makes them fall into each category, and how you can avoid the latter. We'll discuss where RSS fits into the picture with each of these technologies, and how you can leverage RSS feeds to keep your patrons and staff up to date, even if they don't use a feed reader (and we'll talk about those as well). No technical expertise is necessary to learn about these technologies, and very little is required to implement them. This online workshop is ideally suited for frontline staff who may be implementing and working with these technologies on a regular basis, and for managers who may be responsible for developing policies around these tools. *For more information about this Keep Up! workshop and to register, please click on the links below:* Tuesday, October 14 ,2008 (Registration Deadline 10/6/08)<http://visit.oclc.org/t?r=896&c=1442927&l=30874&ctl=1E42BD9:A361D4350A9FC9F…> 10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. Pacific Time *Location:* WebEx Online Meeting Thursday, November 6, 2008 ( Registration Deadline: 10/29/08)<http://visit.oclc.org/t?r=896&c=1442927&l=30874&ctl=1E42BD9:A361D4350A9FC9F…> 1:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m. Pacific Time *Location:* WebEx Online Meeting Wednesday, December 10, 2008 (Registration Deadline: 12/2/08)<http://visit.oclc.org/t?r=896&c=1442927&l=30874&ctl=1E42BD9:A361D4350A9FC9F…> 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Pacific Time *Location:* WebEx Online Meeting >From RSS feeds to member updates, staying informed is easier than ever with OCLC Western electronic communications<http://visit.oclc.org/t?r=896&c=1442927&l=30874&ctl=1E42BDA:A361D4350A9FC9F…> . -- Thanks with regards K. Some basic Questions
by sabuj kumar chaudhuri 18 Sep '08

18 Sep '08

Dear Friends/Respected Sir/Madam I have some basic questions regarding a Librarian's Status in College/University: Why librarian's job is non-vacational? Don't we recognize the research need /academic freedom of Librarians like teachers? What are the actual status of librarian ? Do we consider librarians as teachers or someone else? Why librarians need to clear (UGC)NET/M.Phil/PhD? If they are having the same entrance qualifications and same recruitment hurdles then why don't they enjoy the same acdemic freedom (like FIP, Phd increment,One day off, 16 hrs job /week, same retirement age, no major/minor research project etc)? Why are UGC or State govts. hiding these matters behind the equal pay (8000-275-13500)status ? Why our so-called renowned/influential professionals/tecahers /professional association feel shy to talk about the matter before the concerned authority? Do we really feel ourselves subordinate to our teacher friends? Why don't our associations are raising nationwide agitation for redesignate our service as per propsition of AIFUCTO? I do not want to hurt any body. What I am said is from the core of my heart and these are very important matters to make this profession attractive to the new generations. I love this profession.I am Librarian by choice not by compulsion.I am proud of being a Librarian. Actually I feel, a profession or a subject develops when it gets absolute parity and respect.Without parity, recognition and respect Librarian will not shine any more. I will be very happy to discuss the matter with you all and share your valued comments on these questions. with warm regards. sabuj ---------------------------------------------- Dr. Sabuj Kumar Chaudhuri Librarian Basanti Devi College [http://www.basantidevicollege.org] (An affiliated college under University of Calcutta) 147B, Rash Behari Avenue Kolkata-700 029, West Bengal India Phone:(033)24641012 email:sabooj_c@yahoo.co.in ;sabuj_c(a)yahoo.co.uk ;sabujkumarchaudhuri(a)gmail.com website:http://www.geocities.com/sabuj_c/sabuj.html ---------------------------------------------- -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.
