Library of Congress Releases Data for Free Download and Discovery The Library of Congress announced today its third release of records in its online catalog for free bulk download for research and discovery. The release supports the Library’s effort to continuously expand open access to its vast collections. University of Utrecht Announces Bold New Open Science Incentives A leading Dutch research university announced that it is formally abandoning the impact factor in all of its hiring and promotion decisions by early 2022. Rather than continuing to rely on this controversial and flawed metric, every department at Utrecht University in the Netherlands will judge its scholars by other standards, including their commitment to teamwork and efforts to promote Open Science. The University’s bold new “Recognition and Rewards Scheme” is part of the University’s larger Open Science Programme, which aims to make research more transparent and cooperative. Open Science fellows embedded in each department will assess progress towards elements including open access publishing, public engagement and research data sharing. The TRIPLE model consists of six components: team spirit; research; impact; professional performance; leadership; and education. They describe the three domains where we generate output (research, professional performance and education), the impact they have on science and society, and leadership in academia that actively nurtures an environment in which they can flourish.
