'Time to rethink intellectual property laws?
by Shriram Pandey 08 Feb '09

08 Feb '09

Dear List members 'Time to rethink intellectual property laws?' It is a very good article written by David Dickson. The author has given many innovative idea like : 'Patents on scientific knowledge may not be as useful — or valuable — as many claim them to be. 'The speed of the global economic collapse is provoking a widespread — many would say belated — realisation that many of the beliefs underlying economic expansion over the past 20 years need close questioning, particularly those involving the relationship between the state and the market.' The full article is available on : http://www.scidev.net/en/editorials/time-to-rethink-intellectual-property-l… -- Regards, Shri Ram Pandey - MLIS(BHU), IKM(IISc), UGC-NET (JRF) Asst. Digital Education, by Antonio M. Battro and Percival J. Denham
by Shriram Pandey 08 Feb '09

08 Feb '09

Dear Colleagues, The purpose of this book is to provide a panorama of the application of new digital technologies in education as the century comes to an end. In some cases we have described instances where this technology has already been implemented with great success, in others we discuss promises that have still to be confirmed. We also hope to awaken 'critical enthusiasm' for an effective and beneficial implementation of the best technology in the service of education and the individual. This is a great challenge, partly because of the multiplicity and complexity of new technologies that are constantly exceeding the traditional limits of educational science and partly because no-one can know which of these technologies will prevail in education in the coming century. A text of this nature should be subject to regular revision, as the explosion in technology is of such a magnitude that many innovations that seemed impossible to apply in the field of education a few years ago are now commonplace. This trend is evident in all latitudes; in some cases a high-tech product from a developed country finds an educational application in a peripheral country before it is used for these purposes in its country of origin. This book will therefore be content to describe the situation faced today by educators committed to the efficient introduction of new digital technologies already widely available on the market. This project is also being published on Internet, and is available on our web site (www.byd.com.ar) as an example of a system that will soon be widely adopted in the world of publishing: the 'dual book', available in printed and digital form. -- Regards, Shri Ram Pandey - MLIS(BHU), IKM(IISc), UGC-NET (JRF) LNM Institute of Information Technology(LNM IIT) Jaipur(Rajasthan) -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.

Fw: Academia.edu" to the Continuing Professional Development & Workplace Learning Community
by Shamprasad Pujar 07 Feb '09

07 Feb '09

Dear Members, FYI Regards, S.M. Pujar, IGIDR, Mumbai ============== -- Original Message -- From: richard_price(a)academia.edu To: cpdwl(a)infoserv.inist.fr Date: Fri, 6 Feb 2009 23:58:13 +0100 (MET) Subject: [CPDWL] Announcing "Academia.edu" to the Continuing Professional Development & Workplace Learning Community Dear all, I recently finished my Ph.D at Oxford on the philosophy of perception. With a team of people from Stanford and Cambridge, I've just launched a website, Academia.edu, which does two things: - It shows academics around the world structured in a 'tree' format, displayed according to their departmental and institutional affiliations. - It enables academics to see news on the latest research in their area - the latest people, papers and talks. We are hoping that Academia.edu will eventually list every academic in the world -- Faculty Members, Post-Docs, Graduate Students, and Independent Researchers. Academics can add their departments, and themselves, to the tree by clicking on the boxes. Academics are joining the tree rapidly. More than 25,000 academics have added themselves in the last three months. Some professors on the site include: - Richard Dawkins - http://oxford.academia.edu/RichardDawkins - Stephen Hawking - http://cambridge.academia.edu/StephenHawking - Paul Krugman - http://princeton.academia.edu/PaulKrugman - Noam Chomsky - http://mit.academia.edu/NoamChomsky - Steven Pinker - http://harvard.academia.edu/StevenPinker We're trying to spread the word about Academia.edu as much as possible. It would be terrific if you could visit the site, and add yourself to your department on the tree at http://www.academia.edu/signup?CPDWL. If your university is not there, you can add it. Independent researchers - if you are a researcher that is not associated with a university, I encourage you to add yourself to the "Independent Researchers" portion of the tree at http://independent.academia.edu/signup?CPDWL. And do spread the word to your friends and colleagues if you can. Many thanks, Richard Dr. Richard Price http://oxford.academia.edu/RichardPrice -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.
