Garfield said: "A partial indicator of Ranganathan’s international impact is the number of citations to his work in the Science Citation Index (SCI ) and the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSC1 ). Over 400 publications cited his work over a 20-year period. Prolegomena to Library Classification, his comprehensive work on classification theory, is his most-cited publication. But, for a number of reasons, these citations are only a fraction of what a thorough search would establish. Not the least of three reasons is that our coverage in the field in the early days of SCI and SSC1 was rather selective and limited. Currency of Science: The promise and perils of scientific publishing *Connect* - an IISc magazine There is also a movement within the scientific community that is calling for publishing in journals under professional societies (like the American Chemical Society) and other open journals (think Indian Academy of Sciences). Although, in many of these alternative publishing options, the matter of prestige remains unanswered. Thus, it becomes the proverbial question of who will bell the cat? To force a change, who would stand for a set of values that would likely be detrimental to a successful academic career? It is a tough ask and even tougher decision. One would think identifying the problem and finding solutions are right up the alley of scientists, but they, too, are bound by the same problems of money, job security, and career advancement that haunt the rest of the world. Friends, UAE is the new kid in the block in AI, probably using Small Language Models. Here is a brief news item:* The UAE throws its hat in the ring with new open-source model. *The country unveiled 'K2 Think', a 32-billion-parameter reasoning model that claims <https://link.mail.beehiiv.com/ss/c/u001.DbzK6ussT05IJzzbg4YqOuLlWu2sss4wh-o…> to outperform much larger models in math and advanced problem-solving benchmarks. The open source model provides researchers with training code, datasets, and deployment tools, building on the UAE’s existing AI portfolio that includes models like Jais and Falcon. This research project is designed to develop and validate a professional identity scale for LIS professionals. If you are in your first 10 years of professional practice in the LIS field following your latest degree (undergraduate or higher) in LIS. We recognize that the name of your academic program may vary across countries - for example, Information Science and Knowledge Studies, Information Management, or Documentation Sciences. Therefore, you can take part in this study, even if your academic program had a different name.
