Call for Papers: VTU is organising a National Conference on “Redefining Libraries in Electronic Age, At VTU, Belgaum
by Dr.K.R. Mulla 24 Aug '13

24 Aug '13

Dear Sir/Madam, I am happy to inform you that, VTU is organising a National Conference on “Redefining Libraries in Electronic Age”, in the last week of November, 2013. At VTU Campus, Belgaum. The role of Library and Information Centers in the present era is ever changing and the traditional services have taken a new shape in the light of the Information Technological developments. Physical locations for ease of access to Library resources no longer an issue. Now Libraries are facilitating their users with 24/7 access using Internet Technology. Today physical use of libraries is declining drastically and most of the Librarians are expressing their concern over this development and are feeling insecure due to fall of user attendance in Libraries. This need not be the concern of Librarians. Today the users are techno-savvy and access more information than the earlier users. The libraries used to supply limited reference resources to their users earlier, but today’s users will get multiple resources on their fingertips. Hence the concern for Librarians of these days should be to redefine the role of Libraries in reaching the right information to the right user at right time. Hence a National Conference has been organized to provide a platform for discussing the following main issues: *Conference Theme: Redefining Libraries in Electronic Age * *Sub Themes:* *1. Their presentations at Bengaluru were the high light of the meet and were of a very high order. We requested them to come over to Chennai to address the Chennai members of the foundation and the student community here. The Computer Science and Engineering Dept of Anna University agreed to jointly organize a meet at short notice and the invite is annexed. All of you know the disasters that the global cyber threats can cause for the units using SCADA systems. The first possible cyber war attacks on our country will mostly be targeted on our power generation units, power distribution systems, water distribution systems, water purification systems, processing industries on variable factors of heat, flow, pressure, vibration, etc., continuous manufacturing industries like automobiles, components, oil drilling units, oil refineries, fertilizers, transport systems of air, rail, bus, sea etc., hospitals, telecom system operators, bank servers, etc, etc, Mr. Jan Seidl will focus on how exactly the enemy will be attacking us and the various precautionary steps to be taken by us to protect ourselves from such possible attacks. The presentation of Mr. Ewerson Guimaraes will be how servers will be targeted focusing on the various vulnerabilities that the attackers will look up and the measures to be taken for protecting the servers. He will take up citrix servers as an example as they are mostly used in India. This will be a golden opportunity to know the various intricacies that are not normally known much to the system users in various applications in India. The presentations will be very useful for all CTOS, CIOs, system administrators, Research scholars, academicians, engineers who are focused on vulnerability testing and penetration testing, IT audit teams, etc., I request that this opportunity may be fully availed by our IT teams to know about the threats and also know how to secure our infrastructure. Dear Moderator kindly circulate. HALF OF 2011 PAPERS NOW FREE TO READ: BOOST FOR ADVOCATES OF OPEN-ACCESS RESEARCH ARTICLES. Search the Internet for any research article published in 2011, and you have a 50-50 chance of downloading it for free. This claim - made in a report1 produced for the European Commission - suggests that many more research papers are openly available online than was previously thought. The finding, released on 21 August, is heartening news for advocates of open access. But some experts are raising their eyebrows at the high numbers.
