We need to understand our users, and how and why they interact with the products and services the way they do. User Experience (UX) studies using ethnographic research methods provide a qualitative approach to obtain rich descriptions of users' experiences, i.e., how they engage with existing library services and spaces as well as show how they actually may want to use these; and, nuanced insights into what the users don't recognise they want. The rich evidence-based findings can be used to design user-centric products and services and transformative library experiences more attuned with the expectations of the diverse user groups. The workshop will provide participants: Libraries are evolving and the question arises what is the future of libraries? The following challenges are encountered by the librarians: (a) A brief overview of ethnographic research methods that can be adopted to better understand user behaviour in the context of existing services and spaces. *Dear Sir/Madam,* *Greetings !* *Dr. Basavaraj Shivappa Kademani *popularly known as *Dr. BSK* is one of the renowned LIS professionals and Scientific Library Administrator in India. He is known for his Excellence in Innovation, Creativity, Public Relations, Management, and User Services. Above all, he is a great human being, source of inspiration and motivator, specially, to the younger minds and professionals. He will be superannuating on 30th June 2018 after serving for more than 35 years of dedicated service as a librarian, administrator and a researcher. He devoted his entire career to the library profession and its development. After completing his academics, Dr. Kademani joined Mangalore University Library, Mangalgangothri on 7th October 1982. He joined the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad on 21st May 1984 and later joined Scientific Information Resource Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai on 26.10.1988 and presently he is serving in the centre as Scientific Officer-G and shouldering the major responsibilities in the division. He has contributed significantly to Library and Information Science, specially, in the field of Scientometrics. He has more than 130 publications in National and international Journals to his credit. As on today he has received 1735 citations to his publications and his H-index is 25. He is also a referee to many national and international professional journals. He is the recipient of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) *Fellowship in ‘Library and Scientific Documentation’ *in 1991 at the Fachinformationzentrum (FIZ), Karlsruhe, Germany and Vienna International Centre (VIC), Vienna, Austria. He is the recipient of ‘*ILA-Kaula-Best Librarian Award-2008*’, *SIS Fellowship Award-2009 *and *SATKAL National Librarian Award-2012* in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the Library and Information Science field. Informatics Studies is a platform for discussing the emerging trends in theory and application of Information Science and is entering its fifth year of publication. Priority areas are studies on ICT application for narrowing the digital divide, language technology for regional languages, which is crucial for Asian and African countries for reaching the un reached. But serious researcher can see that the concepts and techniques enunciated by him stands test of the time and remainslive in the ever changing informatics field and society. His works acted as the foundation of the Information Management of the yesteryears, Knowledge Management of the modern-day and shall continue showing light to the future dispensations. They still remain a source to the practical and theoretical solutions for policies, plans and programmes, innovations, services, systems, networks, etc. Informatics Studies would like to commemorate his contributions to LIS profession by publishing a special volume at the end of the Quasquicentennial year. The Anna Centenary Library: The Epitome of Great Public Space

Dear Sir/Madam, Libraries especially public libraries offer a space for people of all ages and coming from different background to spend their time productively and also to spend their time leisurely. The Anna Centenary library of Tamilnadu could be a model library for other state to follow. The Anna Centenary library is established in the year 2010 in order to commemorate the Centenary birth anniversary of former Tamilnadu Chief Minister Dr. Annaduari, who was one of the principal architects of Dravidian movement in India. When we happened to visit the library, it was in the evening and Kottupuram area where this library is located had received some rains. The bags kept in the security room were watered in the rain. We initially wondered why students were kept their bag on the floor without much care. After entering the “own book reading section”, we realized there was very little space for students, because it was buzzing with students reading, discussing with their friends, some were busy with their laptops and mobiles, some others sitting on the carpet and preparing for competitive exams. The own book reading section was full of young students there was very less space to spread their reading materials. It was amazed to see students in large numbers utilizing library space so well. The ground floor of Anna library is also home for Braille section. The Braille section is not only having state of the art assistive technologies to help blind students but also consists of good number of books on various subjects in Braille. The Children section is another attractive space in the library. The space is designed to attract children attention. There are many comics available for reading and also good number of computers where children can use for multimedia contents. The library consist large number of books running more than five lakhs from well-known publishers around the world, the books in our own domain library and information science is something extraordinary. Even some of the university libraries in India not have these many books in our own domain. The collections are far better. Same for computer science, history, literature and other domains. The library is also computerized and having its own digital library to help students to access e-books and e-journals. The uniqueness of this library is its vastness in terms of its space and also its collections. This library has nine floors spreading in around about almost 4 lakh square feet. It is impossible to visit all the sections and have complete picture in a single day. The library is also space for people for spending their time peacefully. When we were there some of them were simply resting or sitting in the library. The cafeteria is also there to refresh. This Anna Centenary library is kept very clean and dust free. All nine floors are having their own rest rooms and drinking water facility. This library is also known for its eco-friendly design . TToday we talk of user engagement with library. Here is a state run public library which is on par with any other world public libraries. There is a collaborative space, digital information centre, children section, conference halls, amphitheatres and what not for users. Because of this monumental library, M. Karunanidhi, former chief minister of Tamilnadu, under whose aegis this wonderful library building was constructed, will be remembered forever by the people of Tamilnadu. If any political leader is to be remembered or remain in the minds of the people, is not to construct individual statues but to build public space such as libraries which can benefit masses. What is surprising is that there is no enough information on this beautiful Anna Centenary library. The last Conclave was held in Pune in partnership with the Information Resource Centre, TCS, Pune. The forthcoming event - LTC 2018 - is being organised in partnership with Goa University Library. LTC2018 will not only continue to focus on Koha, but will expand the scope covering a wide range of technologies that are redefining the future of libraries. Refusing to serve as editors of commercial journals, as well as becoming active in organizations like Bullied into Bad Science, are two such examples. ECRs are carefully weighing their chances at promotion and tenure and considering what they believe may be a more ethical way forward. What we know is true is that there will be many forms of *open* in the future, and small steps and risk-taking by ECRs can influence our path. ------------------------------ Tidbits to Watch... - Several large scientific publishers are taking legal action against ResearchGate for allegedly hosting millions of articles that violate copyright law. - A new paper published on the *Social Science Research Network* suggests that Wikipedia articles are influencing scientific literature. While the influence may be controversial, it speaks positively about increased equity in research access. - Projekt DEAL is a consortium of 150 German libraries, universities, and research institutes that wants to take down the paywall in front of research papers that have German primary authors. Smaller deals have been made with other countries but the DEAL negotiations are intense and ongoing.
