Dear Members, We're pleased to announce the rescheduled details for The Dr. T.B. Rajashekar Memorial Lecture 2025. This annual event commemorates the late Dr. T.B. Rajashekar's lasting contributions to the library and information science field, particularly in advancing India's open access and digital library infrastructure. We're pleased to announce that Dr. Madhan Muthu, Director (Library) at O.P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat, Haryana, India, will deliver this year's memorial lecture on the topic: Building Open Access Infrastructure Using Interoperable Technologies and Capacity Building: The Idea Behind T.B. Rajashekar’s Initiatives About the Lecture: The lecture will revisit Dr. Rajashekar’s pioneering work promoting interoperable institutional repositories and empowering LIS professionals through open-source technologies and nationwide training programs. It will reflect on the relevance of his vision in today’s global push for open, accessible, and interoperable scholarly infrastructure and discuss how Indian library professionals can continue to build on this legacy. Interoperable institutional repositories came to India as early as the open access movement began gaining momentum worldwide, thanks to the pioneering initiatives of T.B. Rajasekar and his colleagues at NCSI in the early 2000s. They established India's first such repository and made significant efforts to empower librarians nationwide by conducting workshops to share their expertise on open-source platforms. Indian librarians had valuable opportunities and support, such as tools and training, to promote open access in India. However, have they truly taken advantage of those opportunities? Dr Madhan's talk will explore Rajasekar's emphasis on interoperable, institutionally-defined repositories that enable easy, web-wide access and visibility of research papers through seamless metadata sharing. He will also discuss why Rajasekar’s foundational work remains essential, why it must be continued, and what librarians in India can do to carry forward his legacy, particularly now (though belatedly), when there is growing global recognition of the value of interoperable repositories. Madhan will further highlight recent developments in metadata aggregation and improvements in secondary information services. Building metrics is the key to science and technology measurement, and translating the measures to work better. The metric is not confined to drawing numbers and analysing. Recently, we have witnessed the emergence of new metrics-based models that aim to reflect the growth of science and technology. It offers PGDLIM, MLISc and PhD programmes in Library and Information Science discipline with a focus on digital libraries, knowledge organization, library automation, electronic resource management and web-based information services. TISS is pleased to announce admissions for the 16th batch (2025-26) of the "Post Graduate Diploma in Digital Library and Information Management (PGDLIM)" programme. Ten tips to steal books from the library. Coming from a librarian, you may have a lot of expectations. But I shall restrict myself to some important tips. Let me enumerate: 1. Borrow a book using your friend’s library card. He will be responsible for the book. 2. In the book, there will be a book card giving information about the book to be borrowed. Replace it with a card from some other (cheaper) book 3. If the library has a “checked-out book detection” system, learn to bypass it by throwing the book to an accomplice outside the gate. 4. While you walk out, hide the book in a file, newspaper, or register. 5. Watch out for friends who brag that they have stolen books and ferret out inside knowledge 6. If the circulation desk is unmanned, that is the time to try 7. Another lean period is Sunday or festival days 8. David Horvitz describes eighty ways in: “How to Shoplift Books.” This title is available from Amazon Books. Many tips are suitable for the library scenario, too. Steal it and use it! 9. Books kept on a display stand/desk/chart board are not fully ‘processed’. That is: easier to lift. 10.Some library staff (assistants) may be dishonest enough to help you! Rajashekar Memorial Lecture 2025, originally scheduled to be held online on Tuesday, 24 June 2025, is being rescheduled to a later date in July 2025 because of unforeseen circumstances. We regret any inconvenience caused and sincerely appreciate your understanding. The lecture will commemorate the enduring contributions of the late Dr. T.B. Rajashekar to the library and information science field, especially in advancing open access and digital library infrastructure in India. This year's lecture will be delivered by Dr. Madhan Muthu, Director (Library), OP Jindal Global University, Sonipat, Haryana, India, on the topic: Building Open Access Infrastructure Using Interoperable Technologies and Capacity Building: The Idea Behind T.B. One is also equally happy to know IITM conferred either a 3-year BSc Degree or a 4-year BS Degree on 867 students who have not come through the usual JEE route. This special Bachelor's degree programme aims to make quality education available to all, regardless of age, background, or location. Nearly 150 of the new graduates belong to families with annual income below Rs 1 lakh, while another 100 come from families earning less than Rs 5 lakh. An additional 365 students earned diplomas. Only a few years ago, Prof. Ajantha Subramanian, then at Harvard University, had commented adversely on the elitism in the admission policies of IITs, paying special attention to IITM, in her book *The Caste of Merit*. Kudos to IITM for addressing the concerns expressed not only by those concerned about social justice but also by many citizens of India, especially parents of children who were in the final years of schooling.
