Dear Professionals, Greetings from MILAN Mysore and trust this email finds you well. Mysore University Information and Library Science Alumni Network (MILAN - http://www.milan-mysore.org/ ) organized an invited talk (Virtual Mode) on "How to get it published in reputed publications" by MILANer Dr. Manju Naika, Chief Library Officer, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) on Saturday, May 1, 2021. *Sharing the summary of the talk for your kind information. * Dr. Manju Naika began his presentation with the role of Librarians in helping users and discussed India's current global position in terms of research publications. The speaker emphasised the need to assist users by offering training programs in best publishing practices, such as author seminars, centralized language editing, and familiarising new generations of users with current research resources and global research practices. Dr. Naika opined that it is the librarian's responsibility to create awareness about how to avoid plagiarism and publishing in predatory journals amongst their users. Sharing his experience, the speaker said the next emerging field in scholarly communication is scholarly content in multimedia format like video journals, video articles etc. Dr. Manju Naika emphasized the need to establish contact with users which is critical to librarians' success in the modern era. Data visualization, Data analytics services are in demand, and librarian's should use the opportunity to provide such assistance. The speaker opined that libraries are notorious for having diminishing budgets, but now, due to the real estate boom, there is a demand for library space from others, so unless librarians take the required measures, retaining library space would be the next obstacle. To contend with, Dr. Manju suggested that librarians should work proactively to increase library resource utilisation and user footfalls. After the presentation, a lively discussion took place with the participants, and the speaker answered all the questions raised by the users with suitable examples. It is with great sadness that the Mysore University Information and Library Science Alumni Network (MILAN) share the sad news of the death of our MILANer Aruna P.R., on Saturday, May 1, 2021 in Bengaluru. Smt. Aruna P.R. was the Executive Committee Member of MILAN during 2014-2015. Her active involvement in the Golden Jubilee Celebration of MyDLIS (Department of Library and Information Science, University of Mysore, Mysore) and establishing MILAN is always remembered. Smt. Aruna P.R. did her Bachelors in Library Science in 1975-76 and Master Program in 1976-77 at MyDLIS. Her professional journey started at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and moved to Delhi joining Eicher Tractors serving till 1995. Her long and dedicated service at Library of Congress Delhi Center as Acquisitions Head during 1996 to 2011 has earned much appreciation. Recently, MILAN lost its member and Smt. Aruna's husband Sri.G. Sundar Singh. MILAN conveys our deepest condolences to the family and friends. May God Bless peace to the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family to bear the irreplaceable loss. Our thoughts and prayers will always be with the family. Perception survey on Sci-Hub

Dear Sir/Madam, The recent court case against sci-hub and Libgen by Elsevier, Wiley, and ACS (American Chemical Society) in India has triggered much academic discussion on the academic freedom and ethics on accessing scholarly resources. The Sci-Hub is a service that allows researchers to access all the scholarly papers which are behind a paywall. Alexandra Elbakyan, a young computer programmer from Kazakhstan, founded Sci-Hub to fill the gap in accessibility for quality journal articles. From its genesis, the sci-hub faces many challenges from the major publishers as the site makes a free database of all the articles which are behind a paywall that costs a lot to the publisher who generates this content. There are already court cases in the USA and many other countries. Coming to India, many Indian researchers who don't have access to scholarly content are quite dependent on the sci-hub for their research needs, the 2017 usage data of sci-hub shows, 8.7% of the request came from India which is 13 million downloads of research papers. On one side there is an ethics issue and on another side, there is an increase in the price of scholarly resources which is hindering the people who don't have access but want to contribute to scholarly research. The researcher and scholar are divided on the sci-hub issues, where those who believe that knowledge should be free to all and those affirm that there is a price for everything including knowledge. In view of this, the present survey is being conducted to know the perception of the teaching faculty/ researchers/ librarian/ scientists towards Sci-Hub vis-a-vis commodification of scholarly communications. Dear All Professionals, It is very sad news, to know that Prof.S. Parthasarthy, former Head,INSDOC is no more. Probably that was the last link connecting Dr. SRR with the entire professional chain of veterans who worked closely with the father of library science. I am fortunate of being studied at INSDOC and I had the first meeting with him in Delhi and posed me a very warm welcome. Since then he has had lasting memory about our first meeting and that was his legacy. Even with that age he was agile professionally and actively participated in the meetings which attended. Never used spects, his hearing was not much diminished and one would recall Sir MV whenever we met him. Thank you Prof.K.S.Raghavan, by giving us Prof. Parthasarthy's key achievements and prestigious positions he held in the profession. The Grand Old Man of Library Sciences by far the best seen in India in the last century Sri S Parthasarathi of Triplicane Chennai, aged 104 years attained his Acharyan Thiruvadi at Hydrabad this morning. Even at a 100++ age he would travel by MTS-Bus and train. He has been a role model to many LIS Professional and IT Professionals like me. He used to keep himself updated with all developments and share with his contacts. He is an excellent motivator and used to encourage people. He has supported and reviewed many library, indexing, special publication initiatives in which I was involved at The Hindu. I miss him very badly. I pray HIS ALMIGHTY to shower HIS blessings on the departed soul to rest in peace. Sad demise of D R Kulkarni, Ex-Manager, British Council Library (BCL), Ahmedabad

Dattatreya R Kulkarni started his career with INFLIBNET Centre in 1994 as Library Professional on a temporary assignment. I also became his colleague, at a later stage. Later, he joined ABB Ltd, Baroda as Library Officer and worked for a brief period. He joined British Council Library, Ahmedabad as Assistant Librarian, later he becomes Deputy Manager and Manager contributed significantly to developing BCL, Ahmedabad. Along with Satish Deshpande, the BCL was a very active and happening place for many years with so many activities such as Book clubs, Movies, Writer groups, etc. It was also the dominant UK education hub. He served British Council Library as Manager till it was closed (2019). He was working as Deputy Librarian (2020-) for SVKM's Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) Developing a Public Library for the city of Shirpur on the lines of BCL. He did M.L.I.Sc. from Karnatak University, Dharwad in the year 1992. He was a very humble, efficient, helpful professional. He was also helpful in making many young professionals as BCL Trainees. D R Kulkarni became a victim of Covid19 and he breathed last on 8th April 2021 at about 8.30 pm. It is very unfortunate that at the prime age the Library profession has lost him. What do Indian Researchers download from Sci-Hub Recently three foreign academic publishers filed a case of copyright infringement against Sci-Hub and LibGen before the Delhi High Court and prayed for complete blocking these websites in India. In this context, this paper attempted to assess the impact that blocking of Sci-Hub may have on Indian research community. Dear Dr.Sunil, It is a terrible and a very painful news to me when I heard of Prof. Nagappa's sad demise. I was one of the admirers and always cherished his teaching and writing. One of the most humble and yet versatile thinker and I have maintained very high respect for his knowledge and scholarship, yet he never exhibited it. I had many opportunities to interact with him and I have had a very enjoyable discussion. He wrote a wonderful article in Kannada on bibliographic control which I still posses and one can imagine the value his writing. I had an opportunity to visit his house long ago and I still remember his warm hospitality and treatment with dignity. I cannot sustain his loss for years to come. Pray Almighty to lay his soul rest in peace.
