Currency of Science: The promise and perils of scientific publishing *Connect* - an IISc magazine There is also a movement within the scientific community that is calling for publishing in journals under professional societies (like the American Chemical Society) and other open journals (think Indian Academy of Sciences). Although, in many of these alternative publishing options, the matter of prestige remains unanswered. Thus, it becomes the proverbial question of who will bell the cat? To force a change, who would stand for a set of values that would likely be detrimental to a successful academic career? It is a tough ask and even tougher decision. One would think identifying the problem and finding solutions are right up the alley of scientists, but they, too, are bound by the same problems of money, job security, and career advancement that haunt the rest of the world. This research project is designed to develop and validate a professional identity scale for LIS professionals. If you are in your first 10 years of professional practice in the LIS field following your latest degree (undergraduate or higher) in LIS. We recognize that the name of your academic program may vary across countries - for example, Information Science and Knowledge Studies, Information Management, or Documentation Sciences. Therefore, you can take part in this study, even if your academic program had a different name. Building metrics is the key to science and technology measurement and translating the measures to work better. The metric is not confined to drawing numbers and analysing. Recently, we have witnessed the emergence of new metrics-based models that aim to reflect the growth of science and technology. In addition to the standard conference track and the Doctoral Symposium, STMetrics will host several workshops and tutorials related to the conference theme. The Delhi High Court has at last given its verdict on the case filed by Elsevier *et al.*, against Ms Alexandra Elbakyan and Sci-Hub. Please see https://spicyip.com/2025/08/sci-hub-now-completely-blocked-in-india.html. The Hon'ble judge of the Delhi High Court has heard the arguments of both sides and given his verdict as per the provisions of Indian laws. Sci-Hub and similar shadow libraries will be banned in India and the government agencies in charge of providing Internet access to people will ensure that no one can access those sites from the Indian soil. This decision will affect tens of thousands of users of journal articles in the sciences, social sciences, the humanities, and whatever area one may pursue. I am sure a lot of people - mostly graduate students, teachers in colleges and universities and researchers in research institutions outside of academia, doctors and journalists - will feel the pinch. But I have a hunch, innovative people will find a way out. After all, India is known for 'jugaad.' But I want all of you to think why there was a need at all for a Sci-Hub or a Lib-Gen to emerge in the first place. Is it not because authors not only do the research and submit it to journals but also referee articles written by others for free and finally when the paper is accepted by a journal they transfer the copyright to publishers of the journals. We can start the change from India. From now on let all researchers in India decide to retain the copyright to their work and not surrender it to the publisher. Second, another equally important initiative, is that all researchers make the first announcement of their new findings (results) in the form of a preprint which could then be publicly peer reviewed. Want to know about library stock verification

Respected sir I m a newly assigned librarian in a college. They give me a work of stock verification eventhough there is no classification and catalogue system is used. That is a traditional library which used accession number for charging discharging. By using this traditional way lot of a stock was lost and misplaced. And Somewhere there accession numbers were neither stamped on books. Rajashekar Memorial Lecture 2025. This annual event commemorates the late Dr. T.B. Rajashekar's lasting contributions to the library and information science field, particularly in advancing India's open access and digital library infrastructure. This year's memorial lecture will be delivered by Dr. Madhan Muthu, Director of the Library at O.P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat. The topic is: Building Open Access Infrastructure Using Interoperable Technologies and Capacity Building: The Idea Behind T.B. Rajashekar’s Initiatives About the Lecture: The lecture will revisit Dr. Rajashekar’s pioneering work promoting interoperable institutional repositories and empowering LIS professionals through open-source technologies and nationwide training programs. It will reflect on the relevance of his vision in today’s global push for open, accessible, and interoperable scholarly infrastructure and discuss how Indian library professionals can continue to build on this legacy. Interoperable institutional repositories came to India as early as the open access movement began gaining momentum worldwide, thanks to the pioneering initiatives of T.B. Rajasekar and his colleagues at NCSI in the early 2000s. They established India's first such repository and made significant efforts to empower librarians nationwide by conducting workshops to share their expertise on open-source platforms. Indian librarians had valuable opportunities and support, such as tools and training, to promote open access in India. However, have they truly taken advantage of those opportunities? Dr Madhan's talk will explore Rajasekar's emphasis on interoperable, institutionally-defined repositories that enable easy, web-wide access and visibility of research papers through seamless metadata sharing. Friends, Greetings from IISc, Bengaluru. I wish to congratulate the four editors of Prof. K A Isaac Festschrift, Dr K. P. Vijayakumar, Dr K. P. Sadasivan, Dr M. G. Sreekumar and Dr K. G. Sudhier, for taking upon themselves the most admirable responsibility of honouring a great teacher with a well thought out Festschrift. Remembering great teachers and honouring them both during their lifetime and after their passing is indeed a noble trait. I have had the privilege of speaking to the students of the Department founded by Prof. Isaac, several years ago, thanks to an invitation from Prof. K P Vijayakumar. The volume has come out very well. I wish to make a confession. Although the request to contribute a chapter arrived months ago, I was reluctant to write for the simple reason I had not known Prof. Isaac personally. But Dr Sadasivan was insistent and I couldn't say no to him and I had to finish writing the paper in a few days. My paper was not in the format the editors wanted nor could I write an abstract. *I thank the editors profusely for converting my paper to the format they had chosen as well as for writing an abstract. * In the abstract there is a sentence where I am bracketed with Stevan Harnad, Peter Suber and Eugene Garfield. Narcissistic and vainglorious you would think. I totally agree with you. I am just a pygmy in front of them. If Harnad, Suber and Garfield can be compared to Gandhi and Nehru in India's Independence movement, I would have been a footsoldier carrying the flag and belting out patriotic slogans. I know my place. I didn't even go to a library school. I am an accidental information professional.
