SDGenie (beta) is free to use and offers researchers a new way to identify detailed targets - rather than goals alone - and, therefore, to make their work more relevant to the SDGs. There are 169 targets, which define actionable priorities. Together with indicators, they help to measure progress towards achieving the SDGs by 2030. Importance of Heritage Libraries--An Example

SRI KRISHNADEVARAYA TELUGU BHASHA NILAYAM (Sultan Bazar, Hyderabad), one of the oldest libraries inTelangana, was established on September 1st, 1901 by eminentpersonalities such as Jagirdar Sri Ravichettu Ranga Rao, Sri Komarraju VenkataLaxmana Rao (Diwan of Munagala Raja), and Sri Adiraju Veerabhadra Rao toprotect the Telugu language and culture. It began its operations from JagirdarRanga Rao’s own bungalow in Ramkoti. As it became very popular with increasednumber of readers, it was shifted to a rented bungalow in Koti. Followingsudden death of Sri Ranga Rao on July 3rd, 1910, his wife SmtLakshmi Narasamma, resolved to fulfill her husband’s dream of providing its ownbuilding to this library. She donated Rs.3000 for the purchase of a old tiledhouse in Ramkoti (the same place where the present multistoried buildingstands) to accommodate this library. In 1915, Sri Madapati Hanumantha Rao, whotook over as Secretary of this library, collected donations worth Rs.12000 frompeople, dismantled the old tiled house and completed the present building in1921.Unfortunately Smt Lakshmi Narasamma passed away on October 25th,1918 without seeing the new building. It was hercontribution of Rs.3000, a big amount in those times, which laid the strong foundationfor a great heritage library. It celebrated its 125thanniversary on September 1st this year. It has an invaluable collection of 53776 booksin Telugu, English, Urdu, and Hindi. Recently,a faculty member of English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) approachedthis heritage library for the book History of Japan, published in 1906.It is a matter of great delight that this book was retrieved within minutes. The document treasure we see today inthis library is the result of selfless service and sacrifice, spanning 125years, of several individuals such as Sri Boorgula Ramakrishna Rao, Sri KodatiNarayana Rao, Prof. B Rama Raju, Dr. Dasarathi and Sri ML Narasimha Rao. Key responsibilities: In collaboration with the Executive Chair of LVPEI and the Archives Advisory Group, the Head of Archives will deliver on the following: · Oversee the planning, design, and physical setup of a purpose-built archives facility at our Kismatpur campus, ensuring adherence to mutually agreed standards for preservation, security, and access. · Recommend and procure appropriate archival storage solutions, environmental controls (temperature, humidity), fire suppression systems,and security measures. · Establish workflows for the intake, processing, storage, and retrieval of archival materials. · Liaise with the IT department to implement and manage archival software systems for collection management, cataloging, access and display. · Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive archival policies, procedures, and best practices in line with national standards, including SOPs, accession forms and procedures. · Create and standardize all relevant archival forms and documents, including but not limited to: · Deed of Gift/Deposit agreements· Accessioning forms · Processing worksheets · Finding aids templates · Digitization guidelines · Conservation reports · Reproduction request forms · User registration and access forms · Ensure all documentation is regularly reviewed, updated, and compliant with legal and ethical requirements, along with the policies of the institute. · Establish robust reporting mechanisms to track collection growth, processing backlogs, access statistics, and preservation metrics. · Prepare regular reports for senior management on departmental progress, challenges, and strategic initiatives, including managing the archives budget. · Help recruit, train, and cultivate a small archives team · Foster a culture of archiving among LVPEI staff and support professional development within the archives team. · Recruit, mentor, and lead a team of professional and dedicated archives professionals and develop nodal officers in relevant departments. · Develop plans and identify opportunities for collaboration and growth of the Archives. · Facilitate storytelling, education, research and deeper understanding of eye care and LVPEI in society. Stakeholders: · LVPEI’s Boards · The Executive Chair and Founder Chair · The Archives Advisory Group · Key department heads and nodal officers Qualifications: · Master's degree in the Sciences (preferably) or Social Sciences, Archival Studies, Library and Information Science (with a focus on archives), or a related field from an accredited institution. · At least 10 years of work experience, including five in a large organisation. Relevant experience in establishing or developing an archives facility is desirable. · Experience with archival management software and digital preservation systems. · Good understanding of legal and ethical issues related to archives, including copyright, privacy, and intellectual property. Personal qualities: · Timeliness, attention to detail, and to deadlines · Excellent leadership, communication (written and oral), and interpersonal skills. · Ability to manage complex projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. · A passion for historical preservation and a commitment to making archival resources accessible to a diverse audience. Should Indian researchers pay to publish their research?

Friends, Here is a message posted in the NKRC WhatsApp group. *"APC Support* Article Publishing Charges /Article Processing Charges (APC) is one of the components of the ONOS scheme. APCs for selected good quality open access journals will be centrally funded through the executing agency for ONOS. As decided by the Core Committee, ONOS, fully open access journals which are in top 1% as per any of the 3 indicators: CiteScore, SNIP or SJR published by SCOPUS are eligible for payment of APC from ONOS. The Open Access journals can be either from the 30 publishers providing access to their published journals in ONOS or other publishers." *** What a waste of taxpayers' money meant for research. Even if one doesn't pay APC, many journals will publish the paper, only they will not make the paper IMMEDIATELY Open Access.That can be overcome by either placing the final author version in a global repository like Zenodo (CERN, Geneva) or HAL (CNRS, Paris) or placing the preprint in a preprint server such as arXiv/ bioRxiv/ ChemRxiv ..., even before the journal publishes the article. Also, one can always send a reprint (or a link to the reprint) to potential readers. The Rs 150 cr allocated annually for the next three years for APC can be better invested. For example, when Dr R Chidambaram was India's PSA, crystallographers proposed the setting up of at least one synchrotron. Dr Chidambaram was seriously considering setting up a synchrotron facility in Kolkata. The PAC's office almost cleared the proposal but subsequently it got derailed. Science Gallery Bengaluru is seeking donations from our supporters and members of the public over the next three days to achieve their fundraising goal to reach across rural and peri-urban libraries in the state. They are partnering with the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (RDPR), Government of Karnataka, to bring our exhibition-based learning resources to public libraries. Their pilot program saw a successful participation of 180 members from all 31 districts in Karnataka. They will take three exhibition-based learning resources in Kannada and English to libraries across the state: (1) an Exhibition-in-a-Box, (2) Activity Handbook and online (3) Open-courseware. The workshops will also be held in Kannada and English to prepare staff from public libraries to use these tools for informal learning of science. Seetharama*, Former Professor and Head of the Documentation Research and Training Centre (DRTC), who passed away today September, 26, 2025 at 9:00 AM in Hyderabad. His immense contributions to the field of Library and Information Science, and particularly to DRTC, will always be remembered and cherished.
