International Conference on Digital Libraries (ICDL 2013) 27-29 November 2013, New Delhi TERI is organizing ICDL 2013 (International Conference on Digital Libraries) during 27–29 November 2013 at India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. The conference would be inaugurated by Hon'ble VICE PRESIDENT OF INDIA. The major objectives of this mega event are: ü To bridge the digital divide between developed and developing countries ü To create a platform through capacity building on Digital Library, Knowledge Management and applications of Social Media ICDL 2013 is also expecting an august gathering of over 500 participants drawn from cross-disciplinary areas etc. We have received confirmations from several renowned international experts for participating in the deliberations. The word limit for each paper is 5000 words. All papers should be written in English for acceptance for presentation in the conference. Each submitted paper will be reviewed by a panel of experts and only well-researched and well-written papers will be accepted for presentation. It is expected that all accepted papers will be presented at the conference by the author(s). A few papers shall also be selected for the poster session presentation. The conference proceedings that will be distributed to the participants will include the selected papers (for presentation at the conference) and abstracts (selected for presentation in the poster session). Regarding Admission in Mphil ( Library & Information Science).

Dear All, I would like to peruse Mphil in Library and information science but as i am a government employee, it is not possible for me to take admission in Mphil in regular courses offered by Indian universities and unfortunately UGC has banned Mphil through distance mode as per the guidelines of UGC (Minimum standards and procedure for awards of Mphil/Phd degree), Regulation .2009. It is my kind request to all to please guide me that how can i continue my further studies or research work to make myself more update and compatible with my subject and to go further in my career. I am one of the great sufferer of such kind of regulations made by the UGC on a strange ground that "Research work is poor" produced by the candidates studying through distance mode. kindly guide me how can i do my Mphil (not Phd) on behalf of all such aspirants who wants to do Mphil and are not able to do it because of their job commitments or for any other reason. As every body is not so lucky and economically strong to continue their studies after Graduation or master Degree without doing work/job. It is about describing a particular resource which has distinct identity at any level of aggregation. The use of metadata record promotes resource discovery. Traditional approaches to metadata shifted from traditional to automate and subsequently towards digital library. In recent times considerations are being made for the development of a universal protocol for data exchange with different Digital Libraries. There is need for standardization of metadata. There should be broader solutions for the interoperability between every information sector. Applications need to be accessed through independent interoperability. This can be achieved by a collaborative effort of metadata harvesting. The OAI-PMH is a very recent development. It is being regarded as an important step towards information discovery in the digital library arena. Alert : Change of default ID/Password

Dear All, When you are using any software and that is online (Intranet/Internet) like web based staff client or any online ID/Password based services like Dspace etc. then its my observation that few Libraries are not changing their default ID/Password or the general passwords given by commercial software vendors. Therefore my view is before going online kindly change all the possible known ID/Passwords of the software to avoid hacking (Data loss). I hope few libraries will pay attention on the above. Thanking You. Indian Statistical Institute Documentation Research and Training Centre Colloquium (4) – 2012-14 Linked Data: A descendant to Library Science Principles Abstract In present scenario of Semantic web, goal is to enhance the visibility of resources; and publish it in a structured manner, so that not only humans but also computers become capable of processing it. Linked data is just an addition of one more facet to it, so that the resources could be interlinked and related concepts can be identified and discovered. However, the underlying idea is very old and is closely related to concepts like citations between scholarly articles and controlled headings in library catalogues. TERI in collaboration with NASSDOC, ICSSR is organizing a workshop on "Professional Development Programme for Managerial Librarianship for Social Science Libraries" from 17-19 July, 2013 at TERI, India Habitat Center, New Delhi aimed at equipping the LIS (library and information science) professionals with state-of-the art skills and knowledge to meet current and recent challenges in this dynamic knowledge society. Some of the select objectives of this would be to: • Transform the informational professionals belonging to social science libraries knowledgeable in developing innovative information services. • Inculcate infopreneurial attitude among the LIS professionals towards sustainability. • Bridge the gap between what is preached and what is practiced in the Social Science Libraries. The workshop programme as well as course contents have been developed in guidance with eminent subject experts to promote continuous improvement of core competency skills of the participants. The resource persons will comprise of experts from within TERI as well as outside. The pedagogy of this programme will be lectures, presentations, exercises and case based discussion. The course has been developed content rich which primarily focuses on guidance to implementation of best practices. To allow such rich and useful interactions, the number of participants will be limited to 25 drawing participants from social science libraries. Each institute can nominate only one candidate to have appropriate blende of the experiences of the LIS professionals. While the registration for the nominated participants will be free of charge, the transportation and lodging cost will be borne by the participants. The select participants need to fill up a survey form to assess his/her current level of expertise. Modern libraries are repositories for documents in both, printed and electronic form. Both kinds of documents can be stored/archived, retrieved/access, delivered/downloaded when required. The books and printed materials together with endless and ever increasing scholarly e-resources makes the traditional management of library and information centres a difficult target to accomplish. To overcome these difficulties, new technologies are being adopted like library automation, networking, Internet, web 2.0 etc. And in recent years, the evolution of discovery systems lead towards a model that provides access to a more comprehensive representation of library collections. A variety of products and projects have emerged with the ambitious goal of addressing the content represented in a librarys subscriptions to electronic resources in addition to the books and other materials managed in the integrated library system.
