About the Conference We are in the most challenging time when technology and our traditional library values are converging. Libraries have undergone a great paradigm shift under the influence of Information Technology (IT). With the development of automation and computing and a knowledge society, libraries have evolved to become information providers rather than mere document providers. Indeed recent advances in the field of IT contribute significantly to improve the services of the library. Further, the impact of IT has led to a paperless society, digital libraries and virtual libraries.While acknowledging the changes taking place in the mode and service of information delivery and usage, it is important that the library profession rediscover the specialised needs and expectations of the users so that it can reevaluate its services, and reinvigorate the library professional. It is 100% possible in case of oss but, difficult in case of commercial solutions. So be cautious while adopting commercial software regarding data policy. Never depends on software firms. Open Source S/W is better than commercial as we all know. Even, AICTE also has mentioned in its Handbook to go for open source software in your libraries. Please remember no commercial firm will easily allow you to migrate your data. So its my personal view is to go for OSS and compare it later on with commercial as per your requirements at the same time also keep contact with the Institutions who is using the various software. Therefore, this conference has been planned to provide a platform to enable interaction among library professionals, digital library experts, researchers, academicians, and students to adopt, implement and utilize Digital Library and all other available latest technologies and their future implications towards shaping information paradigm to bridge the digital divide through knowledge sharing and to provide an opportunity to identify the strengths and gaps in the library system to suggest new models, policies and mechanisms for reshaping the traditional libraries into next generation libraries. E. g. 1, 2, 3, 3.1, 3.1.2, 3.2, 3.3, 4, 4.1, 4.1.2, 4.2, 5.Citations must be numbered continuously in Arab numerals and should be as per APA reference style. Archives and Publications Cell (Erstwhile NCSI Building), IISc, Bangalore - 560012 Abstract: Knowledge is increasingly characterized by diversity which results in complexities. Socio-cultural background and purposes attribute to knowledge diversity. There are also other factors such interdisciplinarity, environmental and temporal factors that contribute to diversity in knowledge. As an asset, diversity of knowledge could lead to projections of semantic correlations, bias and opinion mining. 'Living Knowledge’ (LK) [EU FET project] considered diversity as an asset and aimed to make it traceable, understandable and exploitable, with the goal of improving navigation and searching in very large datasets. The aim was to study the effects of diversity and time on opinions and bias in socio-economic relevance, especially for seamless representation and exchange of information. Intuitive search and navigation tools (e.g. search engines) are needed to produce more insightful, better organized, aggregated and easier-to-understand output. The talk discusses analytico-synthetic approach in representing knowledge diversity. In particular presents its application in Media Content Analysis. About Speaker: Dr Devika is an Associate Professor at the Documentation Research and Training Centre of the Indian Statistical Institute and Adjunct faculty at the Department of Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Trento, Italy. She worked as a CO-PI on the research projects ‘Living Knowledge’ and 'AgInfra' funded by the European Commission. She hold a PhD in Knowledge Representation techniques for faceted classificatory systems.
