Authority data held in library systems, including classification schemes find new ways of expanding its potential as shared knowledge structures across the linked data environment. The objective of this conference is to explore such a potential, expanding the value and use of classification as authority controlled vocabulary, from the local perspective to the global environment. We invite experts in authority control, classification schemes and linked data to provide overviews, illustrations and analysis of classification data management and exploitation. Contributions are welcome on high quality, innovative research and practice on the following topics: • Classification as a component of subject authority control • Classification authority data formats and modeling • Classification and multilingual subject access • Sharing classification data from authority files • Classification data in the open linked data context CONTRIBUTIONS: Two kinds of contributions are invited: conference papers and posters. It has become one of the biggest engineering colleges in the northern part of Kerala. Central Library has a very good collection of Books, CDs, Journals, archives and E- documents. Library subscribes more than 100 print Journals and 7 packages of online journals such as ASME, IEEE, Mc- Graw Hill, Elsevier, Wiley, J-gate etc. The Central Library is fully automated since 2010 by using GRANDA Library Automation Software. Now we are shifted to KOHA Integrated Library System. We are also in the path of Digitalization by using D Space. *Workshop content* During the three days of the workshop, the participants will be given knowledge in research ethics, and the tools used in Academic writing. Dear Satya, I was reading your list of requirements. Much of it is linked to the accounting (financial) framework in Koha. You may already be aware that there is a Koha community RFC in place for a complete overhaul and re-write of the code that handles accounting in Koha. A lot of work has already happened on that. As well as major changes to the underlying acquisitions code. Keeping future upgradeability and maintenance, it is important that emergert requirements like yours are brought into sync with global development. A way to ensure that is greater participation and visibility in the global community (read - regular interactions on Koha-devel / koha users mailing lists, koha bugzilla for feature requests and signoff on patches submitted that directly impacts your specific use-case, Koha's online IRC meetings every month where one can bring in their agenda to discuss and the Koha wiki for proposed RFCs etc). The way ahead is either to self-develop the code in tandem with the community OR sponsor/fund a developer to add these new additions/enhancements to the global Koha codebase. Alternatively, you *could* develop these in-house and/or in tandem with a local vendor AND choose not to share these changes with the global Koha community under GPL license. However, by doing so your code will an isolated fork of Koha's code base. Maintaining it in working status with future versions of Koha would solely be your own responsibility. Almost all major modules/functionality in Koha have been developed as sponsored development from libraries / library consortia across the world. Few months back I was in a loop of mails on success of Open Access Institutional Repositories (IRs) in India. Some of the features in KOHA is not well defined for a library which wants to use it in a copybook style. Then who will help in these aspects. Since last 15years or more CSIR-NIO library is using computerized Library Management System (menu based to browser based). The current browser based ILMS was developed in-house, using CDS/ISIS database (in Unix/Linux OS), TCL/TK programming language, etc. The software was developed carefully as per the theory of automation to minimize the manual work. When CSIR-NISCAIR initiated a network project (KNOWGATE) in 2013 to make OPAC of all CSIR laboratories public, KOHA software was considered as suitable one. So CSIR-NIO library started exploring the features of KOHA in comparison to current ILMS in 2014. During the process, we contacted few KOHA experts (based on mailing activities in lis-Forum) in India to explore our requirements. But the responses were disappointing. Some could not help on Linux installation and some on the script level. If a commercial service provider can help in modification/customization of the software as per the library requirements then it should not be an issue. Although NIO library is working on script level customization without any help of commercial service support but does not discourage institutes for taking commercial firm service if they do value addition in KOHA. I put this view after realizing the level of IT skills needed to work with KOHA scripts & databases. Is there any expert (non-commercial) who can help in developing the following features? Acquisition: 1. User recommends a document for procurement using the "Your Purchase Suggestions" form. I want duplication check before "submit of recommendations" with OPAC & pervious recommendations. 2. Under suggestion management: a) There should be duplicate checking facility in pending suggestions. b) A mail should generate to a group of users (subject experts) when the status changes form pending to checked. c) Accepted documents TAB should provide option to ORDER (create basket) there than from "Vendor" side. 3. If the basket is created today for a vendor so all the order created for that particular vendor will attached to the same basket. The first statement is true unless the basket is open not closed, if it is closed a new basket would be created for the vendor. 4. Update of Exchange Rates based on Order Date there in the "Accounting Details" 5. Creation of Invoice with a choice of Vendor than the default way. 6. Receiving orders with the right Price Estimate than the Estimated Cost at the time of Order. 7. Order/Cancel of order should be mail based to the vendors We are trying to included few other features (as per the theory of automation) to minimize manual work. Tripathi)have taken initiative to implement open source software like Koha, DSpace, Joomla etc. in libraries and time to time motivating for the same to library professionals. I was thinking i am doing the great job free of cost but when i saw today a Tender of renowned Institute for Just installation of Koha, data migration from SOUL/Current ILMS and little training to staffs, i shocked and realize that real heroes are those people who have given opportunity for the same and successfully they are running Koha. They have expended Just on our TA/DA and honorarium as per government rules and saved Lakhs of Public money. In present case although i proposed the institute for the same task and given example of a renowned near by library where we have did the job and Koha is running successfully but even though they opted for the Commercial firm service which could be easily done by us in a much better way than any commercial firm. AUTHOR, ACADEMIC AND LIBRARIAN MOST DESIRABLE CAREER CHOICES FOR LONDONERS They say everyone has a novel in them which appears to be the case for most Londoners, after it was revealed an author is the most sought after career choice in a new poll. A total of 1,830 people living in the capital were given a list of jobs and asked: "Generally speaking, please say whether you would or would not like to do each of the following for a living." An author was the most sought after career choice selected by 60 per cent of respondents, followed closely by an academic and a librarian coming in as the third most desirable career. Working as a miner was the least popular job with 87 per cent of people picking it as something they would not like to do, followed by call centre work. Most Londoners appear to prefer the quiet life and would rather be a librarian than a Hollywood movie star. The aspiration to up sticks and move to the countryside and work as a farmer was also an unpopular option, with only 27 per cent of people saying they would like to do this. The poll was carried out by YouGov in January this year. PEOPLE FAKE READING TO IMPRESS PARTNERS, FINDS SURVEY Fake reading is an emerging trend in metros across the country including Bengaluru. Many Indians buy books to decorate their homes, some buy it to impress their prospective partners. In fact, people like to fake read in public places, finds a recent survey on reading habits. The survey, conducted in seven cities in the country including Bengaluru, showed that several people who buy classics never read them. Called the 'Fakespeare Survey,' Landmark Bookstores undertook such a survey for the first time to map the reading habits of people. According to Sivaraman Balakrishnan, Senior Manager (Marketing and Communication), Landmark Stores, they were curious to dig deeper into the buying patterns of their readers. While a plenty of surveys had been done to look into what books people buy, this one aimed at looking into why people were buying certain books. As part of the survey, readers in Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai were sent a questionnaire. Nearly a thousand people responded to the questions posed to them. "Were we to ask the questions in person, people might have hesitated to answer. Hence it was mailed to them," Balakrishnan added. Responses elicited The responses elicited from the readers showed that about 23 per cent of people did fake reading to impress potential partners while about 13 percent purchased books to decorate their homes. Not just homes, about 10 percent of people bought books as an accessory, merely to complete their outfit. Balakrishnan added that fake reading depended on the category of books. For instance, people would normally not fake read a best seller but would do it with a classic. The survey showed that when it came to fake reading, 25.82 percent Indians preferred reading economy and finance, and about 21.87 percent fake read English classic literature, Charles Dickens, for example. According those who conducted the survey, the response was given by people in the age group of 18 and 30. Some of the questions posed to them were: 'Have you ever purchased books as an accessory only to do up your office space and not read?'; 'Have you ever purchased books as an accessory to decorate your home with no intention of actually reading?'; 'Have you ever purchased books as a fashion accessory simply to complete your look?'; 'Would you ever fake read to impress a potential partner,? among other questions. Popular fiction, English poetry, classic English literature, economy and finance, philosophy and spiritual books were some of the categories that people picked.
