Please my following opinions on this topic. with regards,D.V.Patwardhan "Predatory journals have emerged in OA environment. The authors have to pay for publishing their papers. As the publishers get payment to publish papers and wish lure authors to choose their medium, many times stringent quality restrictions not imposed on authors' output. If predatory journals publish quality articles then it is great contribution for scholarly or else they simply create pollution in scientific world."

Adopting ORCID as a unique identifier will benefit all involved in scholarly communication by Subbiah Arunachalam, Muthu Madhan ORCID, the Open Researcher and Contributor ID, is a nonprofit, community-driven effort to create and maintain a registry of unique researcher identifiers and a transparent method of linking research activities and outputs to these identifiers. Together with other persistent identifiers for scholarly works such as digital object identifiers (DOIs) and identifiers for organizations, ORCID makes research more discoverable. It helps ensure that one's grants, publications and outputs are correctly attributed. It helps the research community not just in aggregating publications, but in every stage of research, viz. publishing, reviewing, profiling, metrics, accessing and archiving. Funding agencies in Austria, Australia, Denmark, Portugal, Sweden and the UK, and the world's leading scholarly publishers and associations have integrated their systems with ORCID registry. Among the BRICS countries, China and South Africa are adopting ORCID avidly. *Call for Participation in the UNESCO Directed Media and Information Literacy Capacity Building Training Workshop for Youth-led Organizations in India at Punjabi University, Patiala from 17-19 October 2016.* Are you part of a youth-led organization? Is your organization membership-based? Then, this is for you. UNESCO, Punjabi University, Patiala and Media and Information Library Network of India (MILUNI) are planning a workshop at Punjabi University, Patiala for membership-based youth-led organizations. The workshop will focus on giving training to participating youth on a set of critical skills – comprehension, analysis, evaluation and production – to help them appreciate media messages and use media and information to their own advantage in life and work and bring about the required change in their environment. We shall take care of participants' boarding, lodging and travel expenses. Two people (one male and one female) will be invited from 30 youth organizations across India. This workshop is open to all youth organizations regardless of their areas of interest (environment, religion, sports, education, literacy, gender, human rights, inter-cultural dialogue, etc). The “ICSSR Data Service” is culmination of signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) and Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). The MoU provides for setting-up of “ICSSR Data Service: Social Science Data Repository” and host NSS and ASI datasets generated by MoSPI. Under the initiative, social science research institutes, NGOs, individuals and others dealing with social science research are also being approached to deposit / provide their research datasets for hosting into the repository of ICSSR Data Service. The ICSSR Data Service includes social science and statistical datasets of various national-level surveys on debt & investment, domestic tourism, enterprise survey, employment and unemployment, housing condition, household consumer expenditure, health care, etc., into its repository. Abstract Library record has been designed to be read and interpreted by the librarians and users. The rich record management is one of the forte of librarianship and in today's web environment, these bibliographic records can be an asset in making the web smarter. Librarians have achieved in making records machine readable and facilitate the exchange of records within the community, but there is a gap to enable the machine to manage and interpret these records so as to integrate into applications to provide information services on the Internet. Unless we call upon these changing course, libraries are bound to fall out. Therefore, it has become imperative to revamp or reconstruct in the light of semantic web so that Libraries remain relevant. Changes are seen in the services that libraries provide, the content and the information that is created and disseminated by making data in library silos visible on the web, so as to achieve rich user experience in the information ecosystem. In this seminar, the importance of Bibliographic Record shall be discussed, in relation to, changing scenario of the web and the evolutionary activity towards Bibliographic information. National Digital Library OR National Metadata Library OR National Union Catalogue ?

Dear All, National Digital Library (NDL) hosted by IIT Kharagpur https://ndl.iitkgp.ac.in/index.php seems to be one of the biggest and best project to provide full text educational materials for all.I just searched and find it is nothing but collection of metadata from various sources and has been dumped at one place. For example as per its link top items are: Book 715536 Article 279582 Audio lecture 206336 Thesis 95259 Chapter 49502 Journal 37726 Question paper 33888 But i don't think all are available in full text even 30/40 % and the full text which is available is either already available in open access or subscribed by the concern institutes. For example the e-books, articles etc. Further, The thesis of IIT'S/IIM'S/IISc are not at all available on this portal and you may get error message while attempting to access full text as they are on Intranet. Further, in many cases you may not get resource location information as usually provided in Union catalogue for example Springer e-books catalogue has been blindly uploaded their without full text access or location of library where full text is subscribed. So my view is as per its present shape its name should be National Metadata Library (NML) .
