Kindly post this in the forum. *India’s scientific publication in predatory journals: need for regulating quality of Indian science and education* *Abstract: *Nature Index analysis 2014 rates India at the 13th place for its high-quality scientific publications. Despite this achievement, several studies have revealed that India is also among the major contributors of articles. published in poor - quality predatory open access journals. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to .estimate which category of educational and research institutes predominately publishes in predatory open access journals in India and to understand whether academicians in India are aware of predatory journals. It was found that private/government colleges contribute to about 51% of predatory publications, followed by private universities, state universities, national institutes, central universities and industries, for research articles published from September 2015 to mid- February 2016. The publication pressure among researchers and lack of monitoring the research being conducted are the major factors contributing to articles published in poor-quality predatory open access journals from India. Dear All, It is my immense grief to inform you that the sad demise of Dr. Dibyendu Paul, Professor, DLIS, Calcutta University, Kolkata rested in peace on 11th December 2016. He meet an accident near Salt lake city today and was hospitalized. The doctors declared him dead at 5.30 pm We lost A very young, energetic and dynamic teacher and leader in LIS, West Bengal. I join in conveying our heartfelt condolences to all the members of his family and pray God to give them strength to bear the loss. Customize Your Boot Loader

In dual booting, when we finish the installation, we find that the default option in boot loader to start the system is Ubuntu and Windows appears as last option in sequence. And to start the Windows, we need to choose the Windows by down arrow key on Keyboard and if we don’t choose, Ubuntu will automatically start. If you wish to change the boot loader sequence which can start your desired option first in sequence, then GRUB Customizer is the best option. Only, you need to install GRUB Customizer first then run it to change the option. With Grub Customizer, you can easily: - add, remove, edit, rearrange Grub menu entries. - Change default entry, visibility, timeout, kernel parameters. - Change the resolution, background image, edit the font and color, etc. - Reinstall Grub into MBR, so to load Ubuntu from Windows boot-loader *Install Grub Customizer via PPA:* To install it, from the steps below: *1. **Open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and login with root privilege* sudo su (press enter) (Enter the password. Password will not be visible while typing so be careful.) *2. **Now run the following command to add the PPA:* sudo add-apt-repository ppa:danielrichter2007/grub-customizer *3. **Update the Package with this command* sudo apt-get update *4. **Now, Install the Grub Customizer* sudo apt-get install grub-customizer When the Installation is over, find the Grub Customizer and change the sequence. Recently, the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has been ranked 2nd Best University of India as per new ranking released by the U.S. News & World Report on their list of overall best global universities rankings. *About the Department* The foundation of the Department of Library Science was laid way back in 1950-51 with the introduction of a ‘Certificate Course in Library Science’, by the then University Librarian, (Late) Padmashree Prof. S. Bashiruddin, who later on introduced a one year ‘Bachelor of Library Science’ course in 1958-59 with full time Lecturers for the first time in the country. Subsequently, ‘Master of Library Science’ was introduced in 1970-71 and Ph.D in 1990-91. The Department had taken a pioneering step by introducing Library Science as a subsidiary subject for the students of B.A. since 1986-87. The nomenclature of the Department as well as of the titles of the various courses offered along with their contents had been revising to incorporate changing dimensions of the subject. A special feature of the revised syllabi is the emphasis on Information Technology and hands-on training on a number of commercial and open source library automation software packages. A well-equipped computer lab consisting of about 25 systems, a server and LCD projectors etc., supports the revised syllabi with round the clock Internet facility. The seminar library of the department was automated as the first fully automated library of the university in 2004. The faculty with full capacity of nine members have not only widely travelled in India and abroad, but have also substantially contributed in national and international peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Some of the books from the department have been published by McGraw Hill and Elsevier Publishers, while the ‘COLLNET Journal of Scientometrics and Information Management’ with Prof. Shabahat Husain as its founder Editor, is being co-published by Taylor and Francis, U.K. Presently, the department is headed by Prof. Shabahat Husain, who has been recently elected as the President of Indian Library Association. The department has had the distinction of completing a number of DST and UGC major research projects by designing and developing L.I.S. It has been awarded ISO 9001:2008 in 2015 and has recently entered in the Limca Book of Records. Under the UGC’s Programme, the Department was awarded Special Assistance Programme SAP (DRS-I) in the financial year 2013-2014 for five years. The theme of the project is Knowledge Management in Libraries with Prof. Shabahat Husain as its Coordinator and Prof. Naushad Ali. P.M as its Dy. Coordinator. As a byproduct of SAP, the present conference is being organised in the area of Knowledge Management, its generation, discovery and networking (KGDAN). *About the Conference* The success of an organization is increasingly dependent on its ability to generate, share and utilize knowledge. Knowledge Management (KM), with its potential to capitalize an organization’s intellectual capital, is viewed as a planned and structured approach to manage the creation, sharing, discovering and leveraging of knowledge to enhance an organization’s ability, speed and effectiveness in delivering products or services. KM represents an opportunity by entrusting new roles and responsibilities for libraries and Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals. Modern IT-based tools and techniques may be used to facilitate the knowledge discovery, access and retrieval process. Some important techniques like taxonomies, metadata harvesting, data warehousing, data mining, knowledge mapping and knowledge discovery services are used as KM tools in libraries for the organization and discovery of knowledge. Knowledge networking and collaboration represent a solution for extending access to tacit knowledge for more creative uses and for increased quality of the processes and services. Gaur, University Librarian, Jawaharlal Nehru University Date: Wednesday, 07th December 2016 at 3.30 pm Venue: Committee Room, Central Library, JNU About the talk: Selecting comics from overseas, especially when there are language issues involved, can present special issues in terms of identifying the cannon for that area, acquiring the materials, cataloging and processing the materials, and then finally finding the user base and marketing the collection. In this presentation, I will explore the issues and challenges related to building an international comic collection using the University of Illinois’ South Asian comic collection as a case study. I will begin with a brief history of the Illinois collection and of comic arts in South Asia, followed by a discussion of how the collection was acquired and made accessible to library patrons. I will also discuss marketing and assessment of the collection. Attendees will consider the value of building international comics collections, how comics studies is evolving within academia, and leave with ideas and best practices about approaches for starting their own comic collections. About the Speaker: Mara Thacker is an assistant professor and the South Asian Studies Librarian at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her research is focused on trends in area studies librarianship with a focus on niche collections, and public engagement and outreach. She has used this research to foreground her work to build and market the largest collection of South Asian comics in a North American research library. He served CDS from 1974 to 2006. The funeral held at Santhi kavadam at Trivandrum. He was so sincere and hardworking. The main objective of the University is to promote advancement of knowledge by providing instruction and research facilities in key areas of science, technology and other allied disciplines. At present, there are 09 functioning schools namely: School for Information Science and Technology, Bioscience and Biotechnology, Legal Studies, Ambedkar Studies, Environmental Sciences, Home Science, Physical Science, Management Studies etc. comprising of 24 Departments in addition to Department of Hindi, Department of Education, and University Institute of Engineering and Technology. The School for Information Science and Technology includes four departments, i.e. Department of Library & Information Science, Computer Science, Information Technology and Mass Communication and Journalism. *ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT* The Department of Library and Information Science is functioning in the university since 1997 with the aim to provide up-to-date LIS education to students through effective teaching programmes and practical training. The students are educated and trained in the emerging library and information science developments as required by the existing and emerging market requirements.
