Dear colleagues, Google Scholar has released Classic Papers, a collection of highly-cited papers in their area of research that have stood the test of time. For each area, it lists the ten most-cited articles that were published ten years earlier. This release of classic papers consists of articles that were published in 2006 and is based on the index as it was in May 2017. To browse classic papers, select one of the broad areas and then select the specific research field of your interest. For example, Agronomy & Crop Science, Oil, Petroleum & Natural Gas, and African Studies & History. The list of classic papers includes articles that presented new research. Sad Demise of Mr. Sankaraiah

I deeply mourn the death of Mr Sankaraiah, the Former Regional Librarian, British Council, Chennai.  He was my senior colleague at the British Council for nearly 16 years.  We have handled many reference enquiries together; I was closely associated with him in bringing out the Reference Newsletter for a few years; together we set up a book exhibition at the 70th National Science Congress at Tirupathi.  Sankaraiah was a voracious reader; he read almost on all subjects.  We used to recommend new titles to each other. His English was flawless. We have shared many witty, mischievous moments together.  He took pride in my progress in professional/academic field. He was more a friend and a mentor than a colleague.Even after leaving the British Council in 1989, every year I used to wish him on his birthday.  This year I will be missing him on 1 July, which happens to be his date of birth. Friends: In a short interview I gave Amrit Dhir of Harvard Law School (recorded in 2011), I gave my views on open access. <https://cyber.harvard.edu/node/95198> I said then and I believe now that if OA takes roots in India, China and Brazil then it will be easy all the way. It is doing well in Brazil. It is up to us to adopt it wholeheartedly in India. There have been some efforts, but a lot more remains to be done and done in an organized way.
