The S2O model for serials pioneered by Annual Reviews Inc. about five years ago and the D2O model pioneered by the MIT Press follow the Gandhian ideal of Trusteeship. Those who can afford to pay pay enough so those who cannot pay also enjoy the benefits. Only a few subscribers to cover the costs, but the whole world can read. That is one model of open access. India being the third largest producer of STEM publications and having aspirations of becoming a scientific superpower, it is only fair we support such initiatives as well as other existing earlier initiatives providing Green open access such as *arXiv*. Friends, This paper may be of interest to many of you. It would be nice if some PhD student could carry out a similar survey on paying to publish among Indian researchers (in both STEM and HSS). Dear Friends and Colleagues, There have been many discussions in this forum on the topic of Open Access (OA), particularly led by Arunachalam. As someone who has been an active participant in the OA movement and having pioneered the Vidyanidhi Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (ETDs) back in 2000 — which helped catalyze later ETD and digital library efforts in India — it was an absolute delight and privilege to have an in-depth conversation with my dear friend, Jean-Claude Guédon, the maverick champion of OA, in the latest episode of InfoFire titled "Whither Open Access." Our chat was nostalgic as we reminisced about our time on the NDLTD Steering Committee from 2002 to 2012, while delving into the evolving landscape of academic publishing. We discussed the challenges posed by the commercialization of OA and explored whether the diamond model could offer a sustainable path forward, especially as more institutions rethink how research is disseminated. In libraries, the structured arrangement of knowledge through classification systems, metadata, and indexing plays a critical role in ensuring that users can find relevant resources quickly and accurately. However, with the exponential growth of digital content, traditional methods face significant challenges in information retrieval (IR), including scalability, context relevance, and precision. This seminar will explore the importance of knowledge organization in libraries, focusing on how well-structured systems underpin the entire library ecosystem. It will also delve into the growing challenges in modern IR, such as handling unstructured data, managing large datasets, and providing personalized search experiences. To address these issues, we will introduce the Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) framework as an innovative solution.
